This is going to be amazing!

  • Adez

I think Ghostbusters should have just died, and give girls something different than reheated pop culture leftovers.

Also still waiting for The Last Airbender review

  • Gallen Dugall

I remember that the Rifftrax people said the one kind of movie they won’t riff is a comedy because there is no comedic value in an unfunny movie trying to be funny.
Really what needs to be said about the reboot Ghostbusters – they had a first draft script that needed a lot of rewriting. The thing needed so much work that they had the actors ad lib whole scenes just to pad out the run time.

  • MichaelKz

Ghostbusters 2016 could have been good if it was just a simple gender swapping of the original movie. Unfortunately it was filled with stupid jokes, bad writing, and two actresses, Wiig and McCarthy, who forgot that they were in a movie and not on their shitty SNL or sitcom. Take a look at a lot of older actors/actresses who started on TV. They all upped their game when they were cast in theatrical films.

  • Joe Syxpac

I’m so excited I can’t come up with a reference that involves misogyny and pizza rolls!

  • SerialOffender

I already forgot this movie even exists.
Now you had to remind me.
Now i have to strain myself for 5 minutes to forget about it again.
Thanks you fucking hacks and frauds.

  • Bubs

    When’s the next Plinkett rev-

    Oh… Ohhhh…… Oh?

  • Doctor John Smith

At least this won’t have a hour of Mike responding to Prequel fans… Unlike the TFA review.

  • Sloth

Those lady ghostbusters better get their asses back in the kitchen and make me some pizza rolls!

  • Sloth

He shoulda done Space Cop instead.
    That’s a far inferior movie-film.

  • Doctor John Smith

Woah there Sloth lets not say things we cant take back. Words hurt…. even if it is true.

  • Sloth

It said “Coming Soon”, so probably in a year or two.

  • Doctor John Smith

    Tuesday.

  • Terriosaurus Hex

I feel you, man. Cutting tomatoes with a hacksaw is real messy. Nowadays I just use a chainsaw. Neighbours aren’t too happy with the extra noise at 2am, but they have no idea how difficult it is to restrain the wriggly screaming bastards to get those choice cuts.

  • I do hope this turns more into a “what’s wrong with Sony” than with the entire movie, because there isn’t much to say about it.

  • Sloth

“That was supposed to be funny. But it wasn’t”
Over and over for… I dunno like 2 1/2 hours.
    It’s gonna be really repetitive/dull.
Kinda like when Mike edits Best of the Worst.

  • rikkibarnes

As a female fan of Ghostbusters since I was a kindergartener, I found the whole notion behind this movie to be insulting and demeaning, that girls need “heroines” like the despicable pieces of shit in the 2016 remake. It’s annoying that people seem to think many women are this gullible (though some are, unfortunately) that we will flock to something just because of blatant “GIRL POWER” marketing.

    > Though I hope for more nuance position than what Mike said on Episode 7 saying kids don’t care about representation

In addition to being female, I am also hispanic, and growing up I never felt that I needed characters to ‘look like me’ in order to enjoy them. I can’t recall my friends from back then as feeling this way either as far as I remember. As nice as it was to see a hispanic character show up at times, it didn’t suddenly make me feel better about myself or necessarily make him/her my favorite. It just seems like a shallow assumption that kids automatically need the protagonists to be the exact same race or gender as them. I loved Leia Organa, for example, because of her strength of character and wit…not because she ‘wuz a grrl liek me’. Ray has always been my favorite GB, and I imagine I’d still prefer him over Erin or any of the 2016 GB if I was growing up in this era.

  • Bubs

I think Goosebumps was rated R because of the protracted rape on the pinball machine which was added in the director’s cut.

  • Bubs

“It just seems like a shallow assumption that kids automatically need the protagonists to be the exact same race or gender as them.”

Yes, this. Not to mention, the irony here, is that this assumption itself is actually quite prejudiced. “What do you mean the kids like Lando Calrissian? You mean the little ghetto black kids do? Surely you don’t mean the white kids like him…” But now we live in a world where, despite the seemingly endless SJW crusades, people still think “Dey should stick wit deyz own kindz.”

  • EJ

Maybe he’ll spend 30 minutes debunking some random blog post that only was popular in the first place because of how ridiculous it was.

  • rikkibarnes

I remember a post on Reddit from around 2015 where a parent was upset his/her daughter prefered Han over Rey in TFA. It seems people are legit trying to push a ‘stick to your own kind’ narrative in regards to personal tastes. Hell, just yesterday, I went to the movie theater to re-watch Spider-Man Homecoming, and the girl behind the ticket counter kind of shamed me for buying a ticket to that instead of Wonder Woman. It was kind of embarrassing and uncomfortable, I don’t get why people think that sort of behavior is okay.

  • Adez

Maybe a side review of the Emoji movie, Sony wasted Genndy Tratavosky talent by cancelling his Popeye movie and cancelling Lauren Faust’s Medua movie, no wonder Phil and Chris Miller jump ship out of Sony animation

    Sony generally is a disaster

  • Adez

Alt Right use similar tactics of SJW, as a Libertarian I’m for more progressive movies for pragmatic economic reasons

I mean Disney doing fine with more diversity, and Fast & The Furious make billions

More insular pop culture will slowly die and be replaced, kinda like inbreeding

  • BAM!

  • Adez

Well there’s more material to snark at, but there’s that hurdle of social commentary that I don’t think Mike is all that well equipped to discuss, though his analysis on Youtube commenters give me some home, while him dimissing kids don’t appreciate some representation

I rather wait for Lindsay Ellis to make a big review, though she told me that even she just tired of that shitshow

  • RLMkeepitup

this is a perfect selection for plinkett analsis. but does this mean I actually have to watch this terrifying, for all the wrong reasons, movie???

  • Sloth

    Yes.

  • Adez

Oh I didn’t need a Cuban kid to relate to my favorite shows, but I’m sure some kids do appreciate representation

There’s a doc on Hulu that had a black Texan woman made a fan movie on Storm, so she appreciated representation

Also I’m just not good with faces so more diversity just help me differenceate characters, Dunkirk almost seem like the Clone Wars to me :p

  • RLMkeepitup

    *drinking (bleach) intensifies*

  • Boldizar

Took a young relative to see the Emoji movie… it was terrible consumer trash. It was literally the script of Wreck it Raplh, stripped of any humanity it had.

  • Boldizar

TFA review was great. It doesn’t just have to be about the fiilm. Context is important too.

  • EJ

LOL I get that with WWII movies sometimes. I’m a white guy myself, but a buncha white dudes with the same haircuts can be hard to tell apart.

  • RLMkeepitup

Sony executive algorithms calculated you’d still tweet about it

  • RLMkeepitup

it’s the truest ppinions that hurt the mostest

  • RLMkeepitup

expecting Mike to again touch his briefs on this, even though he already did with diversity in the star wars films. #imagination

  • EJ

Nobody is saying it’s wrong for non-white children to enjoy ANH, despite the whiteness of the cast. That doesn’t mean representation isn’t important.

  • Boldizar

Identity politics is all bullshit and self-induced. It only serves to make people more tribal, rather than more inclusive..

  • Sloth

    Echo

  • RLMkeepitup

this is politics in general or or even broader, group behavior

  • kapsi

So you didn’t watch it yet but you know it’s bad.

  • EJ

The TFA review was boring as hell. Responding to other reviews generally is. Some people think the prequels are good or at least underrated. They happen to be wrong, but who cares? Then there’s the interminable dissection of the “ring theory” blog post. Anyone with a brain can immediately tell how silly it is, we don’t need Plinkett to go on about it for 30 minutes. Most of the attention it got online was in the nature of “get a load of this bullshit,” not, “wow, this is a brilliant analysis.”

What makes the Plinkett prequel reviews great, aside from the humor (Plinkett’s analysis of Anakin’s attempts to get with Padme kills me every time), is the detailed dissection of the non-obvious aspects of why they suck. There’s actually very little commentary about, say, how annoying Jar Jar is, because everybody knows that. But unless you know something about film theory, the problems with shot composition, editing, pacing, etc. are not as obvious. I.e. the stuff that “you didn’t notice, but your brain did.”

Part of the problem was that TFA itself was basically fun and likable, but not great. From a technical standpoint it was very well made, and what flaws it had were pretty obvious. There just wasn’t that much for Plinkett to talk about.

  • RLMkeepitup

the trailer was great advertisement, for A-I-D-S

  • EJ

When every single person whose ppinion I respect says something is bad, I’m pretty confident in assuming it is in fact bad. Also the trailer looked fucking dire, and while you can often dress up a shit movie with a snappy trailer, it’s extremely rare to see a bad trailer for a good movie these days.

  • EJ

Well that’s Reddit. I don’t see normal people who want more representation of women and POC getting upset when their kids like a white, male hero.

  • MichaelKz

I’m getting tired of some of the reviewers I follow who constantly address negative/comments in new videos regarding a previous videos.

  • rikkibarnes

No, there’s minorities who do get upset. Trust me, being a former resident of Miami, FL which is a heavily latino populated area, it was heavily discouraged for kids to like ‘white heroes’. I had relatives turn their noses up at me enjoying superheroes as a kid (also due to me being a girl too).

  • EJ

If more diversity means John Boyega gets to be a movie star rather than yet another bland white dude, I’m all for it, because that guy is cool as hell.

  • Adez

I like that guy, but so far nothing of impressed me more than Attack The Block, a classic

  • EJ

Then again, I would never have thought you could spend 5 hours entertainingly explaining why the SW prequels are bad, but Mike managed it.

  • EJ

Love ATB, was kinda disappointed Boyega didn’t get to use his London accent in TFA.

  • EJ

“Take a look at a lot of older actors/actresses who started on TV. They all upped their game when they were cast in theatrical films.”

You mean like Bill Murray and Dan Ackroyd?

A gender-swap of the original wouldn’t have worked, since a lot of the jokes landing depended on the specific actors who delivered them. Ghostbusters is a weird movie because as funny as it is, it actually creates a sense of real peril as well – you buy into its absurd story just enough that the villain seems genuinely threatening.

A movie that just had the same basic premise and had the same cast as GB 2016 could have been good, they just needed to make it, you know, funny.

  • Kaingerc

what is even the point, the only interesting thing about this movie is all the noise surrounding it.
the movie itself is just a generic comedy with the Ghostbusters name on it(and a reference to the old movies every couple of minutes)

  • Moist

Oof, think of the producers who had to decide between respecting the director’s vision and commercial viability. It’s a real Sophie’s Choice situation.

  • Moist

That’s the kind of talk that gets me excited.

  • Boss Nass

The Next Plinkett Review? I already purchased it……………………………………..

  • RLMkeepitup

typical gungan, act before you think

  • Boss Nass

I’ve purchased all RLM merch/crap like a good boy. Even Skits Skops 2016.

  • Hank_Henshaw

If it helps in any way, I’ve never watched any or the prequels, or TFA/Rogue One. I still enjoy the Plinkett reviews very much. Not because I’m a OT purist, but because I don’t give a crap about Star Wars.

Also, have no plans on ever checking out GB2016.

  • Andy James

It’s safe to watch. It’s so bland and unfunny you’ll forget it within hours.

  • EJ

I’m also sick of the endless conspiracy-mongering wherein every critic who has a different opinion from you must be getting kickbacks from the studio. I mean I’m sure it happens, but unless you have actual evidence that a particular critic got a payoff, the endless speculation is just tedious.

  • ima420r

    But WHICH Tuesday?

  • Doctor John Smith

    Its always tuesday down here.

  • frankelee

That would explain what he’s been doing with his time so much lately. Nothing.

  • MichaelKz

Maybe not Ackroyd, but they were better than they were on SNL, and Ramis was better than he was on SCTV. In general they didn’t act like they were still on TV.

Ghostbusters is a movie that has humor in it, but it’s very curious why it’s considered a comedy. The original Ghostbusters were like real people, at least in the first movie. There is also something about the overall look that makes it look like the Ghostbusters are real. The scene at night where Ray and Winston are driving on the bridge that ends with a long shot of the Ecto-1 strikes that tone for me.

  • Domo

My favorite character as a kid was Mrs. Brisby, and she was a widowed mouse.

I’m not going to relate to being a widow for at least another 30 years!

  • EJ

Yep, that’s what I meant, all those guys stepped up their game when they transitioned from sketch TV to movies.

I’d say it definitely is a comedy, but the overall tone of comedy mixed with semi-serious action and sci-fi isn’t done much, probably because it’s hard to pull off. Other successful examples I’d throw out there would be Buckaroo Banzai, Big Trouble in Little China, the first Men in Black movie, Galaxy Quest, Shaun of the Dead and At World’s End.

I’m leaving out purely comical sci-fi spoofs like Spaceballs or Hardware Wars, which are very funny, but you don’t take the actual plot or situations seriously.

  • BCFC25

This better not be a fucking troll!!

Fool me once RLM shame on you fool me twice I WILL FUCKING KILL YOU!!!! LOL

  • Andrew Carter

I LOVE THIS REVIEW!!! I haven’t seen it yet but I give it 9.5 / 10. Very cool!!!

  • John Adams

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts votes aye.

  • Nicholas DeLorenzi

Please mention the 2009 video game. That is the real Ghostbusters 3 and the movie we should have had, instead of this dumbass reboot. This film had lots of talent. It was just that the script was really fucking garbage.

  • Pop Culture Reference

You still owe me a pizza roll, you fat fuck!

There’s only one way to successfully eradicate trolls.
**calls in air strike targeted at Breitbart message boards**

  • Pop Culture Reference

To be fair, Plinkett could probably pass more legislation than President Trump … at least after he’s done fucking his cat.

  • Pop Culture Reference

That’s why I skipped watching Life is Beautiful. It didn’t look funny at all.

  • Pop Culture Reference

  • Zippo

2:00 AM for me. Will I stay up for this? Do I risk being unfocused tomorrow morning when I work my hack-job as a neuro-surgeon? What’s wrong with my brain?

  • RLMkeepitup

only 12am for me in west Africa tonight. what’s wrong with your timezone!

  • psk

Christ, does that mean i need to actually watch the movie first so i can get all the jokes?!?

  • The mailman stole it. Mailing a pizza roll is about as risky as mailing money.

  • This is a problem I just realized I was facing. This is something I did for things like Man of Steel and Batman v Superman (and many others they have reviewed, but those two in particular were painful) just because I was so perplexed by how awful they sounded that I almost didn’t believe them. In this case though I am hesitant to watch what may have just been an awful, awful comedy. That’s a lot harder than a desensitizing seizure of destruction and collateral damage.

  • Right. Usually all the funniest shit is in a trailer – it’s a bad way to cut a comedy if that’s all you’ve got cause then people go and watch it and say “all the best jokes were in the trailer” – however in this case everything in the trailer was fucking terrible. So if that’s the best they’ve got… oof.

  • I am a tiny bit tempted to try and watch it with my RLM-viewing buddy to see if we can siphon some bad-movie laughs out of it… but like I’m imagining myself watching a miserable comedy and I think the only way to react sarcastically to it is to fake laugh at it the whole way through. HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

  • Zippo

    Isn’t west Africa 01:00 AM?

  • Three, almost four hours ago it was 1am on the west coast in america, what are you on about?

  • Zippo

    7 pm 8 august Milwaukee = 1 am 9 august west Africa

  • Oh I thought you meant literally right now or when you wrote the post. Nevermind. My bad.

  • Can we pretty please just pretend the Emoji movie doesn’t exist? To even speak of it is sinful. That is – right there – the official bottom of the barrel. It’s cinematic sin incarnate. I don’t even care if the movie is a decent kids movie – sometimes you have to take a stand for your values. Even when it means sitting down and doing nothing.

  • Joe Syxpac

    Don’t worry.

There are no jokes in Ghostbusters.

  • Joe Syxpac

Does that mean you’re already a mouse?

  • EJ

“Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.”—George Carlin

  • EJ

Still think they need to get Len Kabasinski, Matt Hannon, and Max Landis together and have them review RLM movies.

  • EJ

Not sure when you grew up but were there even any latino heroes in popular media back then? The only one that springs to mind from my childhood is Ponch from CHiPs. Or was the attitude more that superheroes in general were “a white thing?”

  • EJ

Bland White Dudes sounds like the name of a one hit wonder 1990s pop-rock band.

  • EJ

At one point, didn’t Paul Feig and the cast actually apologize for how shitty the trailer was, and promise that, no, the movie was in fact good? That was another red flag.

  • EJ

Same with Schindler’s List. Not even a chuckle.

  • Domo

If you watch GB16, you’ll forget everything in 2 hours anyway.

Plinkett’s probably just gonna wing it because his memory is worse than ours.

  • Square Peg

Ugh, why? You already did, like, 6 videos on this movie. It’s a comedy, you didn’t find it funny, therefore you didn’t like it. What the fuck else is there to say?

  • Seth

We haven’t yet said fuck you.

    Fuck you.

And now we can call it a day.

  • Seth

Always pay extra for pizza roll insurance, lest your stomach be spared the indignity of a pizza roll…I mean, or you’re out a fucking pizza roll. Jeez brain.

  • EJ

Dang, my phone doesn’t have a setting for Milwaukee Time. How will I know when this drops?

  • Sloth

Milwaukee is in the Central timezone.

  • Ret Marut

Will this be better than Bear Attacks? We shall see.

  • Magnus Ironfist

This is where the fun begins!

  • ikdks

Oh Christ. You mean I have to watch that fucking thing.
Fine. But I’m not paying for it. I’ll find the rifftrax version on the dark web.

  • kensu

I’m surprised they didn’t do Rogue One first… I’m still waiting on a review of the animated movie and the two live-action Ewok TV specials.

  • Joe Syxpac

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

  • Joe Syxpac

Did you hear they are going to review Transformers?

  • ivan zhuravlyov

I just wasted 2 hours of my life to watch this peice of shit just for you hack frauds. Now I’d likely have to spend 2 hours to watch the review to tell me why I did not enjoy it.

  • EJ

Same as Chicago and New Orleans? That doesn’t seem right. I think Milwaukee is in its own dimension.

  • EJ

It’s funny because Rich complains in the Rogue One review that Star Wars is actually just this tiny little universe, when they’ve given us several seasons of good stories about characters who don’t appear in any of the movies, in the form of the Clone Wars and Rebels TV shows.

  • EJ

thats nic e . good commant

  • LameSame

What’s this wack, cracka-ass Plinkett gots to say that ain’t been said already?

  • LameSame

    Tune in to find out!

  • EJ

Nah Wiseau is too weird. And it would be less personal. You know Kabasinski, Hannon, and Landis would love to tear these hack frauds a new one. I mean Kabasinski might not initially since he’s almost psychotically positive and happy, but the other two could drag him down to their level.

  • psk

  • psk

Agreed, whilst i eventually saw those two DC monstrosities, i cannot fathom sitting through GB16. Plus Feig came off looking like such a corporate douche, that at least Snyder – no matter how incompetent i find his films to be – seems genuine.

  • Adez

Nah I rather just destroy that movie with a snarky review

  • I don’t think I’ll watch it if they do. I’d legit be annoyed by them for giving it any attention. It would be the very first RLM video I ever refused to view.

  • Moist

Oh, you get to eat popcorn? Fuck you and your perfect dentition. My mouth is a wreck so I have to go with popcorn-flavored lube.
