Pre-Rec: Risk of Rain

April 15, 2014827 Comments

Jack and Rich Evans play video games and like to talk about them. Mike and Jay never have any clue what the hell they’re talking about, so now they’ve been put on camera to express their interests to the internet, for people that may be able to relate.

flattr this!

It’s a good idea to make this format more like BofW (play first, then discussion) rather than a game review by Rich, that is interrupted by a framework story. That way the setting and the content work together, not against each other, you can focus more on the game itself and you do not have to come up with a plot or premise for the individual episode. I am looking forward to see more of this.

  • Michael Arens

More of this, please. I’d humbly suggest the new FTL with the update + Captains mod.

  • Ishmayl

Nice, please review Chasm when it comes out!

Which means this must be pure schlock

“Previously Recorded was recorded before a live studio audience.

An audience which was previously here but then left.”

  • Robert Fitl

Not bad. Needs more. But not bad.

  • Jason Rainville

    Few quick points to make RE the game;

Did you guys notice that the difficulty increases the longer you play (bar to the right)? The whole point of the game is efficient use of time, so if you were spending too much time exploring that could explain that “difficulty hump.”

Also, the slower movement and jumping looked a lot like slowdown from playing it on 360 (which is weird, I thought it would have ported better) on PC everything seems a lot tighter.

Anyhow, liked the review, love that there’s more game related RLM stuff again :)

  • cabbo

  • Steve

I love Risk of Rain (37 hours and counting?), love Red Letter Media but am unsure on my thoughts regarding Red Letter Media doing video game discussion stuff.

  • Benedict from Shrewsbury

talk about games what I no abaut, you

  • stryker1121

Dudez u gaymoes need to play call of duty not this queer crap.

  • Faddlechud

I will now forever refer to treasure chests as “chesure trests”

  • Rory Binks

I think this format works nicely. I think the more you do the more you’ll know exactly what the show is. I remember when people bitched about Half in the Bag because they were movie reviews but not Plinket Reviews. I also remember when people bitched about best of the worst because it was too close to other comedy critics online, so people potentially bitching about this seems inevitable. But I think this will be great.

My one critique… the name doesn’t really tell you what the show is…. but I suppose neither does ‘Half in the Bag’.

  • tjp77

Ummmm… okay? I guess we’re gonna give the whole ‘Rich Evans talks about games that nobody cares about’ formula another try. Jack helps, but not enough. Ten thumbs down.

On another note, did you guys buy a new camera?

  • LelouchtheFilial

What I like about RLM is that they’re tackling every medium of entertainment.
Can we get a video where Mike works his way through the menu-mazes at Denny’s? Those stump me every time.
Can we have an ongoing series where Rich Evans reviews Jane Austen novels?
Can we have an ongoing series where Jay reviews porn parodies of our favorite films? Because ‘Robocock: Dead or Alive, You’re Cumming With Me,’ and ‘Robocock: Take a Look At My FACE, Dick’ have both been neglected by RLM thus far and this must be rectified.

  • WrongWithYourFace

    It’s gonna be great.

  • Rory Binks

    It’s gonna be great.

  • Annabelle

Yeah guys, your game seems to be running like dogshit. I don’t know how the hell you played it like that for so long.

  • dollar store cashier wife

tomb raider xxx has a higher rating on imdb then both tomb raider movies.i think that makes the plinkett review of it mandatory.

  • Jess

I really enjoyed this! I would be happy to see more of these in the future.

  • stryker1121

I appreciated this segment, fellows. You could spend a lifetime making segments with these cute pixel art games cuz there’s a pantload of em being released these days.

  • Robotron

I like this, keep making them!

  • Uncle Sporkums

    That’s gonna be great.

  • durhay

Hack Frauds React to Risk of Pain

  • Uncle Sporkums

Game reviews?! You hack frauds have so OBVIOUSLY jumped the shark! Unsubscrib-ed!

  • WrongWithYourFace

I want them to review the Ghostbusters game.

  • Faddlechud

Seriously though guys, if you liked this game you should check out Out of This World. More puzzle than action, but if you like that beautiful pixely art it’s worth seeing.

  • Paulus Cañamonjas

Not sure about this. Reviewing video games must be difficult, especially when there´s tons of gamers out there. What about a review with a meta history (Nadine style)? The thing is, which style fits you the best?:

    1) Schlock games/all periods—No, we have the AVGN already.

    2) Games based on movies/all periods—Awkward (would look like a weird BOTW)

    3) Big, succesful games/present period—-Just out of the question. Too fancy.

    4) New indie games/present period—-Yes. If they are good.

Now, the format. I think it would look better if you were sitting on the couch, just playing; the camera in front of you (like the Dudebros). But this minimalistic/zen style has certain charm and could be improved.
So maaaybe this could have a future…But pick the right games, please!

Thanks and keep it up you frauds!

  • Pablo Martinez

Rich Evans is in that game.

  • Faddlechud

Are you talking about Mike Aruba? … or is that way too obscure of a reference…

  • Jack Packard

There is no 360 port, we played it on a PC. It might look a little slow because even though the game ran at 48-60fps we process the video at 24fps to match with the camera footage.

  • Rick_Berman

Pre-Rec is a reboot of Station 2.0, Because fuck you!
Seriously I like this and it adds some fresh content to the site, Hopefully you guys will focus on Indie games that deserve attention.

  • Now I Get It

Love to see Rich back in the game-review saddle and Jack for the unscripted chat, but the real get is the onscreen producer credit that puts Jessi into the guild.

(And by “get” I mean the Jewish divorce that lets Jessi skip town for Hollywood.)

  • Paulus Cañamonjas

Yes, great game. It reminds me of Abe´s Odissey, similar mechanics. This makes me think of those early 90´s games, like Prince of Persia and Alone in the Dark…good times.

  • Jason Rainville

Oh! Ok, for some reason I thought I saw “Xbox 360″ in the game at some point. Might be my brain disease. I’ll have to rewatch.

  • Faddlechud

Abe’s Odyssey… ohh.. that hits me square in the feels. Loved that weird-ass game.

  • Meester Smeeth

Great idea. I could listen to Jack and Rich chitchat about video games all day, but I also get the feeling this isn’t just gonna be video games with each episode, I’m sure there’s a good chance for some comic-book-geekery talk between Jack and Rich in future installments. Either way, love it.

  • Jason Rainville

Ah yeah, it’s the controller prompt and not the console. Silly me.

  • Paulus Cañamonjas

Pretty addictive. Yes, it was the weirdest game for a while. Like, I can´t think of any other game with such originality

  • Meester Smeeth

    Classic, loved Abe’s Exoddus too.

  • Meester Smeeth

It had such a wonderful atmosphere too, I thought. The artwork was fantastic.

  • Now I Get It

I agree. We’re watching two Renaissance men at work.

  • Lilgreenman

Am I the only one who misses GS2.0?

  • Now I Get It

  • Faddlechud

I still remember the first time I played that. I had NEVER heard of it, and of course this was pre-internet days, and I was at some fancy hotel with my parents on vacation that you could rent games to your room, and that was the only one that wasn’t like some stupid racing shit or whatever, and I remember sitting there being like “Whoa…. what the hell is this? Where did it come from? Do… do other people know about this?”

  • Lilgreenman

I don’t really take any issue with these easier to make shows like this and Quick Cuts, but my problem is that RLM is capable of so much more, even with a dumb internet review show, and they’ve shown that many times before.

  • Meester Smeeth

First time I played Oddysee was on a demo I got with my PlayStation, then I got the full game and it’s been one of my favourites ever since. To this day, I still stick it and Exoddus in every now and then. Brilliant stuff.

  • Percy Gryce

Now will some editing-obsessed genius please graft Jessi’s face onto Felicia Day’s head, to complete the “guild” part of the joke?

  • Lilgreenman

  • Percy Gryce

When’s the next season of The Guild?

  • Now I Get It

Six and out, I think that’s all she wrote.

  • Striker, Ted

Talking in a room, shot in shot reverse shot.

  • Emedan

    This is great, more please!

  • Clint

The game isn’t out on Xbox, they’re just playing on a PC with a 360 controller. I also play it that way. But you’re right, it is running very poorly.

  • Rei Grim

I don’t wanna sound like an arrogant cocksucker, but you guys can also play the game and record the gameplay and your raw commentary at the same time.

  • Percy Gryce

    It’s a tumor.

  • melker222

have mike play a souls game and film it

  • jaymanxyz2

Yay, Jack is continuing his over-categorization of things. And I love this idea, keep it up.

  • BTNband

Im always glad to see new RLM stuff and hopefully this will be regular thing. Also i would live to see them talk about FTL and since it has a big update out now, it would be appropriate to look at this little masterpiece of fun and misery.

  • Now I Get It

Now will some editing-obsessed genius please graft Jessi’s face onto Felicia Day’s head, to complete the “guild” part of the joke?

  • Now I Get It

Thanks. I just saw the wrong I done. As in real estate, self-replies are all about location, location, location.

  • Striker, Ted

That’s the problem with hangover based content providers.

  • Faddlechud

    Well said.

  • Striker, Ted

Rick Berman, Rick McCallum, Rick Evans, what is it with Ricks?

  • Niels

    I approve of this!

  • minorgrey

This makes me so happy! Hope you guys do more!

  • Faddlechud

make Jessi play a dating sim…. one of nasty ones

  • Striker, Ted

People bitched until they got Rich Evans working, he was the key to all of this.

  • stefan

it’s shot for efficiency, in shot/reverse-shot.

    talking at a table.
talking at a table in a room.
discussing things in a room with a table.
red letter media did break new ground by having jack share his own segment, though.

  • RyanTheBold

Loved the video; the cross-table chat, the footage of you playing on the couch, plenty of in-game footage so we can gather a concept of the game. If anything, I wish it had been longer. I think that’s all I have to say. How do I end this comment? END

  • Jack Packard

We did record us on the couch and the gameplay footage at the same time.

  • Percy Gryce

I feel like Geek & Sundry was a little bit of a bait and switch. The Guild should really be the anchor of that channel, but the thing ended basically as G&S began. Otherwise, the only thing I’ve watched on her channel is TableTop. I certainly ain’t watching Vaginal Fantasy.

  • bassbait

What are the rules for games that they’re going to play? And is it open to suggestions? Because they’re playing Xbox 360, but I have a million games I’d love to see them tackle both old and new, both console and PC, etc. I’d love to see them do some recent horror games, even though they all suck.

  • Roberto Inchingolo

I would still love to see Mike or Jay featured in this segment from time to time, to give their own perspective of sarcastic non gamers.

Other, stupider idea: do a BOTW with movie tie-in games.

  • Memoman

Me on the other hand, I’m sick of pixel art. I think it’s lovely and it takes a lot of dedicated work, but I’m tired of pixel art being exploited for nostalgia. It seems like an easy, lazy design call.

  • JohnBigbooty

“Downtown to Julie Brown Town!” Ah, memories…

  • Faddlechud

    Jack walks among us.

  • Domo_Konnichiwa

At least I got to see what looks like Jack’s wedding band in multiple angles.

  • Bravo Romeo

What I got out of Risk of Rain is that the whole idea is that you have no idea what each thing is the first time you find it. You’re finding all this garbage that fell out of your ship, and you’re learning about it a little at a time as you play this (very difficult) game over and over again.

  • Joe Bloggs

    Sitting down.

  • tomfall

You guys were playing it with epic slowdown. Need a better computer.

  • Jason

That was done to establish that Jack has a case of the Not-Gays.

  • Jason

it’s a hipster game, designed by a hipster in a hipster style that hipsters now think is overdone and lame. ARE YA FUCKIN FOLLOWIN ME?

  • Clifford Beasley

So I don’t know where else to ask, but anyone have a good suggestion for a strong story driven game? I want a game similar to the old game Nox. It doesn’t have to be an RPG, but it has to just have a strong story that I feel involved in.

OT: I’m so tired of rogue-likes and pixel or other “retro” style games. Looking forward to more of these. Hope they last. Format might need a bit of change up. Back and forth from face to face isn’t all that exciting. Still, I’m thankful for new content!

  • Memoman

Well, that’s like, your opinion, man.

  • Cy

The Care Boars almost got me this time, it was terrifying…

  • Jason

Path of Exile. It’s f2p just have to download it.

  • Clifford Beasley

Played it. Enjoyed it. Just not as tight of a story as I’m looking for. Thanks though! More people need to play PoE!

  • Jason

Shut the fuck up, Donny! You’re out of your element.

  • Robotbling

I can understand where you’re coming from, since so many indie games rely on it, but realistically most of these games wouldn’t even exist if they had to do 3d graphics because 3d is so much more work. Personally I don’t mind pixel art, but I would like to see a bit more diversity in the art styles. A lot tend to go for the ultra-minimalistic look, which does seem a bit lazy. Of course, more detailed and better animated pixel art is also a lot of hard work…

  • Domo_Konnichiwa

Were you listening to the Dude’s story?

  • Robotbling

I hope you mean the new(ish) one, because the old one has been done to death.

  • RyanTheBold

It’s stylistically designed to be that way.

  • JFRA24

The segment is fine, but, reviewing games people have actually played/ would play is helpful. Half in the Bag doesn’t tend to cover obscure indie films.

  • Andrew Coleman

I like to think the entire RLM team are in a polygamous civil partnership with each other and Jack is the only one to wear a ring.

  • Rei Grim

I was thinking more of a 30 minutes of gameplay and commentary video and then the review of the game, but since it is your show you can also do it your way :)

  • Buck Turgidson

I value Rich and Jack’s opinion, but honestly this feels a bit bland of a video game review show at the moment. I come to RedLetterMedia for comedy more than criticism (besides Jay’s Quick Cuts which are amazing), and honestly this doesnt have that unique touch whether it be absurdist humor (Plinkett and Half in the Bag) or natural funniness (Best of The Worst). I thought Game Station had way more potential.

  • Thomas Goresen

I’m still waiting eagerly for the romance subplot.

  • Booger

I am so down for this to be a new thing. I love games and was sad to see Gamestaion go but this could be great.

  • Faddlechud

he called a suicide line…. they told him to do it.

  • BTNband

I dont really know any Nox, PoE type of story driven games
but If all you want is story than i would recommend telltale games (Wolf among
us, The Walking Dead), but they are not games as much as interactive movies.
The Witcher 2 is fantastic RPG with great story where you can only play about
2/3 of the game based on your choices. I can recommend some other more recent games but if you want some old school stuff i cant really help you. For me personaly, the best story game is Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven from 2002.

  • Faddlechud

“I don’t like first person shooters… they’re loud and violent and the blood gets everywhere.”

  • ident

I watch Co-Optitude. Her and her brother play old games. I watched half an episode of that Vagina show. It’s exactly what you expect watching 6 women on Skype to be.

  • Lat

Eh, it’s a brand-new segment. HITB didn’t really find its footing until a few episodes in, just as BOTW didn’t. Although BOTW is a little more inherently funny due to the nature of the show. Jack and Richevans are both entertaining so I’m excited to see where this show goes.

  • Munkey

I enjoyed it, but I hope future episodes are a little more in-depth rather than just first impressions. Choosing a game with a little more complexity would help too.

  • Faddlechud

Wouldn’t that be amazing if, during their discussions, they perfectly re-created the prequels’ shitty blocking? Rich could get up, walk to a window to look out for moment, and then turn around at a pivotal sentence, and then sit back down, repeat.

  • ident

There have been a great deal of good story driven games since Nox. I assume you haven’t been living in a cave and have played those also. If not, well, the first Dragon Age has a good story, The Witcher 2, Amnesia, Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines…I could do this all day, really, but you must have played these already.

  • Buck Turgidson

I agree wholeheartedly. At least a game with a story, that way Rich/Jack’s background in Film could open up some unique wisecracks and criticism on characters, plots and performances instead of just on a game’s artstyle and fun rating™.

  • Beauzooka

Whoa, whoa, whoa. I assumed RLM slept on piles of cardboard and on the viewing-room couches. How do you explain the presence of what appears to be a normal apartment in this video?

  • Faddlechud

    It’s borderline experimental

  • ident

Shot, reverse-shot work fine for simple little review shows, news shows, interviews, etc. I know you’re doing a thing, just wanted to point this out anyway. This isn’t a sci-fi adventure film. More unique or aggressive camera work would just make this look ridiculous, if not nauseating.

  • ident

  • ident

Right. They should only review games with deeply involving stories so that really get into the characters and plot. In fact, the games should be so deep in story, they aren’t interactive at all. And you should have a fat man in a wheelchair drawl over the game footage about kidnapping cheerleaders and murdering his wife. Wait a second…

  • ident

Yeah, no more obscure retro indies no one plays like Minecraft, Braid, or Papers, Please! Whose even heard of these dumb games? Review the next Halo game or I will UNSUBSCRIBE!

  • Cy

You should try some games people made with RPG Maker. Two of them have surprisingly well-made stories, and the effort put into them is pretty cool. I would highly recommend playing them if you enjoy SNES-style RPGs.

    Last Scenario (my favorite)
The Way (sadly it goes off the rails in the final act, but you may like it)

  • WrongWithYourFace

A game that’s kind of like Beyond: Two Souls, then?

  • WrongWithYourFace

Of course I mean the new one. That one actually has something to talk about.

  • Pissernacht

What version of Gamestation is this? I’d say it looks like a 2.2, because 3.0 is would mean a radical overhaul of the operating system…

Anyway, asinine bullshitery aside, I add to the consensus! We have spoken and it is thus; “More Previously Recorded! More gratuitous Rich Evans quotes! Hail to Red Letter Media! Our one true king (of internet entertainment) forevermore!

  • dollar store cashier wife

    fork in the brain.

  • Cy

    8-year-olds, dude.

  • Cordell Whittle

Games commentary is an overcrowded niche already and I didn’t care at all for GameStation, but this was very good. Excellent format, useful comments presented engagingly, a sweet house, and particularly flattering lighting. The face-to-face nature of it does a lot. You have my permission to proceed.

  • dollar store cashier wife

these hack frauds should only play real games like call of duty!

  • GraphicsAndBeer

I agree. It would make it more lively if they talked about the game as they played, the game could be going on at the bottom of the screen as they talk. Then still use prerecorded cutaways.

So then they would be talking and cursing as they die and switch off the controller.

Side note: I grew up with Nintendo, I f**king HATE platformers.

  • dollar store cashier wife

beyond two souls? yeah that would indeed produce a good video

  • dollar store cashier wife

the [bro]mance subplot is in the half in the bag dlc

  • Paul Schumann

I’d seen a few of my steam friends playing this. Not interested in it myself, but I’d definitely be down for Rich n Jack to review more games.

  • Thomas Goresen

“I killed them. I killed them all. They’re dead, every single one of them. And not just the bosses, but the Shedders and the jellyfish, too. They’re like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals. I HATE THEM!”

  • Fangs

If you don’t mind graphics (1999), System Shock 2 has a really great story and the best storytelling ever created in the history of video games. Scratch that. SS2’s got the best storytelling in the history of Sci-Fi.
Other great story-driven games I remember:
The Penumbra series (same guys from Amnesia: The Dark Descent), specially Overture and Black Plague.
    Syberia I.
Scratches: Director’s Cut (first time in my life I had to quit a game because I was too fucking scared to keep playing).
    Silent Hill 2.

  • ident

You should record your gameplay and commentary the way that other review shows do it cause I don’t like things that are different!

  • Domo_Konnichiwa

Wasn’t this the house where Jack was interviewed in the Star Wars Prequels reviews? The area behind them at the start looks like the back porch where he was sitting.

  • Now I Get It

I don’t care how they looked. What I want to know is how did they sound and what do they charge?

  • Faddlechud

“To get infinite retrys is a power only one has achieved… but if we work together, I know we can discover the cheat code.”

  • Dash Faster

There’s no such thing as bad Red Letter Media content. Keep the spice flowing, gents.

I enjoyed Gamestation, so hopefully this is a slightly more permanent solution to fill that void?

  • Faddlechud

I love your icon. Can’t wait till RLM sends us all our special masks to wear to watch the next Plinkett review.

  • Booger

You clearly don’t understand games then. It’s ALL about the gameplay and over-arching design. Like a movie is about moving pictures and using imagery, that is how a good game conveys the story. Jack brought up themeing which may indicate he knows what he’s talking about because that is something games are finally starting to nail. A game and all the parts that make it whole should work together to build towards a unified piece.

  • remote_viewer

Always kinda hoped you guys would do something like this.

    (Play/talk about Dark Souls!)

  • Faddlechud

How about Wizard stars in a tutorial video about proper beard maintenance.

  • Faddlechud

    i no rite? fucking CASUALS.

  • Manaconda

Good series, keep it up. I’d keep the focus on PC indie titles.

  • Domo_Konnichiwa

He’s better than Adam Sandler, no doubt.

  • pp

Try Vagrant Story, for the PS1. It’s got a well-told, interesting story; a distinctive, beautiful visual style; some of the best music and sound design in games ever; and nifty game mechanics (the learning curve can be a bit steep, though).

  • Camille

Would love to see more game related content on this site, but as of
now these videos up to this point haven’t been as good as those
revolving around movies. I find them little bit stiff, dry, they don’t
have as much energy as I wish they would, and I don’t know if it’s
editing or chosen format, but they don’t feel too organic.

    As far
as first impression videos goes, the best way to do them seems to be an
uncut gameplay footage with VO. Play game for 15-30 minutes and talk
about it while playing. You can bring any subject at any given time and
it really helps to make a point when you can present the issue. Also it
adds a lot to a video because aside first impressions we get to see you
having fun with a game experiencing what it has to offer. We watch you
assessing the game, interacting with each other and the story of a game
    being played.

I wonder whether bringing someone else to these
videos would do any good, but I’d love to see you try that. Unless you
did and it didn’t work. Much of BotW charm comes from bunch of friends
discussing whatever garbage they’ve watched. Since these aren’t meant to
be reviews, I don’t think it would hurt to have someone not familiar
with gaming to be there with you. More so as a hardcore gamer I think it
would be interesting to hear what they think about it. Much of most
subscribed channels on YT relies on personalities rather than whatever
they’re covering and Red Letter Media has already a cast we all know and
    love to watch.

PS: Spelunky or Towerfall 4 player co-op :)

  • pp

    Oh stefan, you tit.

  • pp

    Hey, this was nice =)

  • Pacmanman

This is a solid segment, I think the advantage of this over Game Station is that Rich has someone else to play off of (Jack was great). I wouldn’t mind the MST3K-style skits from Game Station showing up here too, though.

  • Kilian Phillips

I dont know if first impressions are really fair for this genre of game. I have put in a lot of hours of risk of rain and I can say monsoon is where the real game begins. Something they didnt touch on is that the timer defines the game difficulty, so the challenge is not just to survive but to do everything quickly the slower you do things the harder the game gets. As for items on a first playthrough you might not know anything and want tool tips, after your 3rd or 4th run you would not, because the items are clear enough and more clutter on the screen with the effects you get in the game would just worsen the experience.

I with support RLM with my ad time for what ever projects they are willing to put their own time into, but I dont think First impression game reviews is really something we need. I think something that might be more up your alley would be looking at old or forgotten games and talk about them. Terrible games that you still like, or favorites and talking about why. Maybe each of you brings a game you love and watches the other play it and talk about it see how their experience is different. I think true through and through game review or first impressions will only make people like me think that you have under sold aspects of the games, or disinterest others who just want more gameplay footage or more banter from the reviewers.

  • Gene Parmesan

    A camera. B camera.

  • Gene Parmesan

    Please keep doing these.

  • Cy

Hey you hacks, balance out the blandness of the review like you do in other videos! You usually do a great job with that. Like the Marvel-movie-plot game in the Captain America review. Or other stuff and things. Don’t get fat and lazy. Well, you can get fat. And lazy if you want, I guess. But you’d better entertain me because I’m an entitled asshole.

Good stuff — impossible to complain about new content, especially a new show, but some input:

I’m pretty sure 97% of video games being released at this point are roguelikes, so reviewing one feels almost superfluous. As someone who doesn’t seek out new games much anymore, I’d like to see reviews that cover games trying something different in some capacity. A lot of this review was simply discussing gameplay, and while stuff about the lagginess of the jumping is informative, it’s not particularly entertaining as a viewer. This could just be my perspective, but as I haven’t played the game myself, just hearing about the mechanics doesn’t distinguish Pre-Rec from a general print review.

This ties into the presentation a bit. I thought the shot/reverse-shot was unnecessary, and chat at the table made it feel too much like any old Youtube video, when (IMHO!!) one of the things that puts you guys above pretty much every other site is your awesome sets and props.

Beyond this, it’s possible that a different angle might be interesting. If it’s just you two playing a new game every week I’d imagine the criticisms may start to overlap, as games nowadays are either rougelikes, FPSes, MOBAs or Sonic the Hedgehog. This might just be the grandpa in me, but I’d kind of like to see a game swap. I’m sure you guys have been playing games for years, so Jack could have Rich play an old favorite of his (or something to revisit) or vice-versa. This is one way to guarantee different perspectives, which should lead to fairly interesting discussion. I’m sure there are plenty of other options, of course. (I’d watch Rich Evans playing Dark Souls for years)

In any case, I’m in for any sort of substantial video game critiquing, as what we have now is either gaming as lifestyle (Why Liking Pokemon in Your 20s Perfectly Normal!) or awesome graphics Game of the Year 9/10 drink Mountain Dew.

Now at the risk of having sounded too polite, get off your asses and give us the next Plinkett Review you fat homos. No one cares about Pre-Rec. UNSUBSCRIBE

  • Mark Bisone

I used to play the hell out of “Robotron”, back in the arcade days. Looks a little like that, especially with all that hectic bullshit flying all over the screen. Once you got into the high teen screens on Robotron, though, it was even more of a clusterfuck. You could lose three men in eight seconds, easy.

None of that “life bar” crap, either. Them old school bad guys would just straight up murder your pixelized punkass, Compton-style.

  • Kamui

this is great hope you guys do more also nice house

  • SeanJJordan

I like Previously Recorded. I liked GameStation. Honestly, I’d love to see RLM tackling video games more regularly, especially with HItB, WotW and BotW being far too infrequent while Space Cop and other RLM projects are filming.

The style of this first outing is good. It’s different from other RLM projects and from a lot of the talking head game commentary one finds on Youtube.

My advice is to pick games that are a little bit more well-known as the “hook” before talking about more obscure indie titles like Risk of Rain (which is a game that only PC gamers who frequent Steam might know). There are lots of big AAA games out there right now that would benefit from RLM’s brand of criticism, and it would be easy to pair those discussions with talk about a lesser-known game or an indie game that fits the theme of the “hook.” (For example, pairing commentary on a game like Rust or DayZ with a game like Titanfall would be interesting because both offer such different multiplayer experiences.)

There’s also a wealth of fun discussion in looking at Free to Play, DLC, Feature-rich Mods that improve or alter aging games and other games that tend to fly under the radar. Too few game commentary shows talk about these.

Good luck, guys! I hope to see many more of these.

  • LeighB

I’d like to see you guys do some reviews of games that suck ass and why they suck.

Having said that I did enjoy this section. As a gamer I feel like this can expose me to games I’d otherwise not try.

  • tjp77

And they didn’t have to build an elaborate set destined for the trash in two weeks time.

  • jaymanxyz2

So has anyone here actually played The Banner Saga? What is it?

    “…bait and switch…”

Honestly, I’d lost track of her, but Day’s situation now seems analogous to RLM’s, with “The Guild” being (roughly) her Plinkett reviews, which she ended to create new content. I wonder if her fans lament the imbalance between the old archive and the new content, as we sometimes read here.

I suppose the blessing is that you don’t have to pay for the old to view the new, or vice versa, as on some news sites.

As for Vaginal Fantasy I must disagree, as I see that two of those women wear their hair in bangs. …What can I say? I have needs, and those needs are ridiculously specific.

Excellent video, I definitely want to see more of this. FTL is also a fantastic game with a rocking soundtrack.

Guys, there’s enough shows on the internet that say the same things in the same way about the same video games. You’re just describing every single element of the game without giving it enough thought to make it interesting. You don’t even need to edit this kind of stuff, just play it and record your impressions and it will have the same value.
If you’re going to stick with this please at least try to be more insightful than “this is fun because A and this is not fun because B”. Or just stick to movies.
Other reasons why I hated this:
-I’m too used to seeing you discuss exclusively movies
-I thought you didn’t value games at all, so now it seems to me like you’re faking it
-The format of the show is boring me to death
-This game isn’t new and I already know everything I want about it

  • whip

I think an important thing about a series like this will be more about the personalities of the people in the series more than the games themselves. If you enjoy Rich and Jack, and their thoughts on things. And find that entertaining. Less so about the actual game itself.

Such as many Youtube Let’s Players and the like. The more popular ones are popular because of who they are and their entertainment value. Less so about the game they are actually playing. Some of them can be entertaining just doing stupid crap like silly google searches.

It’s the first episode of a new idea or venture. It has tremendous potential and room for growth. I feel like you are looking at it from the wrong perspective. Give it a chance!

  • TJ

I don’t think Mike and Jay care for games too much, but I know that Rich Evans and Jack do.

  • Lemoncakes

Yo if you do Telltale Games cinematic adventure shit like Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us you might be able to convince Mike and Jay to watch and wail, supplying agitated commentary and/or moans at what they’ll regard as your terrible and stupid decisions.

“Choose Your Own Adventure” style games can be an accessible nightmare for everyone! Friends can judge you in Real Time as through your choices you reveal yourself to be a weak, failed being. After all, it’s good to face the hideous monster that we all secretly are underneath this flimsy veneer of social graces and human skin.

Also TWD has zombies so not too hard a sell P.S. always choose murder.

  • Lemoncakes

Pretty interesting Norse-like mythology set in a fantasy world. Artwork is Ralph Bakshi “Fire and Ice” looking stuff: hand-drawn rotoscoped action. Music is really good also, done by the guy who did Journey if that means anything to you.

Gameplay isn’t all that great though. Fundamentals are Oregon Trail with Final Fantasy Tactics style combat sections but both sides feel underdeveloped.

Get it on sale if you can.

  • jaymanxyz2

Oddly enough, to me, this makes HitB gain some kind of quaintness. I still like this though.

  • Adrian Wood

There’s something a little strange here. If you’ve played the game, this was running much, much slower than it’s meant to be… But it doesn’t seem to an editing issue, as the sound and music all matched up with the (very slow) gameplay. Something was wrong with their recording setup, methinks.

  • Red Rowz

The problem is personality is something that carries let’s plays or comedy styled videos. This is more in the vein of a review, and the best reviewers go into detail about why certain things work and why others don’t.

Risk of Rain isn’t a roguelike. And “roguelike” just became a cool buzzword for indie developers to use in the last few years so people would think their game is ~rEtRo~ and ~HaRdCoRe~ and ~DiFfIcUlT~

You just need to slap on one or two features like something-something randomly-generated, or “”perma””death (number of sarcastic quotes vary, depending on just how many rewards they let you unlock) and presto, suddenly everyone thinks it’s a roguelike.

  • Worm

    It has 1/5

  • whip

Roguelikes do not have to be top down. It’s about the game mechanics, not presentation.

Nor do they need to be turn based. Several are not. Or tile based. That again goes to presentation more than mechanics..

Roguelike is about how the game plays and functions. In that regard I agree on random maps and permadeath, etc.

It’s funny how things like this bring out the snobs and pedants. Just posting to be semi-insulting towards them for trying something new. Hardly constructive as you miss the point greatly in a number of areas.

I look forward to YOUR gaming reviews, Mr. Expert.

  • Cameron Vale

If it’s good enough for two jackoffs making a ten minute web video where they say that they liked a video game, it’s good enough for the hotly anticipated modern continuation of a legendary cinematic institution and the tent-pole of a massive media empire.

  • Cameron Vale

Especially if you stopped what you were doing entirely, and stared obviously in the plane’s direction for several seconds.

  • The Trooth

Random map generation and permadeath are actually completely unnecessary. You’re right that it’s about specific mechanics that set them apart, but in the same sense that a first-person shooter is different from something like a real-time strategy game.

Those two factors are not core gameplay mechanics, they’re more like secondary features. LOTS of non-roguelike games have them. From 1980 to about 2006-7, it was taken for granted that roguelikes were a specific sub-genre of RPGs, and a top-down, turn-based, tile-based structure was the core of that genre. It’s a little more intricate than that, but random maps and permadeath were just secondary functions that were coincidentally popular in the genre. They don’t make or break it at all.

But now the name is being ruined by indie developers who think “Well, if it’s LIKE ROGUE (in even the most basic, remote way possible) then it IS a roguelike, and nobody can tell me different!”

Basically there are two definitions of the word now. There was a rigidly-defined version that had a good 25-year run, and is now only remembered by weird old fringe gamers like me. And there’s the “new” version, which means basically nothing, but attracts people to your indie game because maybe it means the game will be hard, or something in it might be randomly generated. Sorta. Possibly.

As a mature gamer who only plays mature games for mature people such as myself, I can tell you that your opinion is objectively wrong. I will internet fight you until the end of time on this subject.

  • Alhazzared

    But yes it fucking does
That is WHAT makes a roguelike, roguelike is not about presentation it’s all about mechanics. Topdown is a mechanic, so is turnbased, tilebased etc.
Are you implying that these things are just for show and don’t change gameplay at all? Then you have no idea what you’re talking about.

The Berlin Interpretation is what a roguelike is if it doesn’t fit then don’t call it a roguelike.

The review it self was fine, I wasn’t saying it was a bad review it’s that no one uses the word roguelike correctly it’s a buzzword people like to spout when a game has permadeath.

  • Domo_Konnichiwa

I guess because they don’t have the Spaceballs Mr. Rental library, where they can watch this show before it was fully made.

  • Domo_Konnichiwa

I don’t play video games at all, really, and enjoyed this fine. I probably wouldn’t re-watch it multiple times like I do with other RLM offers, but this was fine for what it was. I kinda wish the whole gang was playing a video game, where Jack and Rich discuss afterwards, but we get everyone’s reactions while playing it.

Shit, even if they just played Mario Kart with 4 RLMers, with a couple other RLMers drunk in the background rooting them on, I would be happy.

It’s funny they mentioned how they didn’t like how slow the jump was, because as I was watching I was so confused as to why their jump / movement was so painfully slow. I’m assuming that it’s either the Xbox version they were playing or the difficulty. On PC / Normal I’ve never seen it so slow before.

How could I not know about Robotron, particularly if Lou Reed did a song about it?

I used to work at an arcade. Remember that episode of The Brady Bunch where they go to King’s Island and Greg Brady was hound-dogging the girl who worked at the football game? Well, I worked that game (and the other “skill games”) about 10 years later. (Literally nothing had changed in that time.) But right behind those games was an arcade with 30-40 pinball machines and video games. But no Robotron.

I think a true roguelike does have to be tile based and turn based – with a “everyone acts at once” gameplay mechanic.

All these other games are roguelike-like.

If you guys feel like getting into something a little strange but satisfying, check out Zeno Clash and Zeno Clash 2.
Everything about the series is odd… its a first person brawler (yes, you heard that right) set in one of the most surreal worlds I’ve ever seen.
The first game is actually a source engine game that’s fairly simple, while the second one is in the Unreal engine and brings some open world and mild rpg mechanics, along with 2 player co-op.
Its hard to describe why its good without spoiling stuff, but you won’t be disappointed.

No offense, but stick to what you guys know. I come here for cool funny movie reviews / mockery from nerds who know about movies. There are better sites for video game crap than from y’alls. I registered just to post this so you know I’m legit ok

ALSO that game is not a roguelike, it’s one of the most abused terms of the last couple years aaaahhhhh I never disliked Jack before this but hearing him bandying it around is makin my fists twitch

  • Duckler

    When’s the next Space Cop?

  • DejaVuudoo

I always take advice from 420HitlersAssGoblin69 to heart.

Looks like we just lost the pot-smoking-Neo-Nazi-coprophiliac audience. Whatever will we do now.

  • Now I Get It

Yes, but to keep it brief it’s “some assembly required.” I’ll have to backatya.

  • Duckler

    It’s truly the 9/11 of 9/11s

  • LelouchtheFilial

Truly, it was the key demographic.

Sigh… I guess RLM is just gonna have to make due with mere pot-smoking coprophiliacs from now on.

This was real nice. Do more of these, at least until the next Gamestation 2.0.

Y’know, if Roland Emmerich did one good thing with his life, it was inspiring this movie.

  • Duckler

We don’t? Have you ever been to Wisconsin?

  • Meester Smeeth

How about Jessi, Gillian and Lora Story chat about their favourite knitting patterns? Or maybe they could review “chick flicks”? There’s no end to the possibilities!

Rich Evans is a modern sex icon. I hope there is a nude scene in Space Cop.

  • Thanatos2k

    Not one at IGN!

  • Thanatos2k

So it was just referring to the controller, not the platform?

  • Jason Hales

Any way we can get a twitch stream of the game play portion of each review?

  • Alex Lee

They should make fun of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. They’d be all, “What the fuck is happening?!” and “This makes The Phantom Menace look good.”

It’d be the shortest BoTW ever.

If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. Don’t try to bully or shame them to take away from those who do.

What possible harm is done to you by it existing, just because you disapprove?

You see an update and it’s for this show? Ignore and move on with your life. Problem solved.

  • Jack Friday

$10, huh? I’m sure the game is nifty and all, but tell me why any self-respecting gamer would shell out $10 for some highly-pixilated hipster junk when we can buy one-year-old triple-A titles off steam other sources for $5? Or I can just wait for this one to get lumped-in with a bundle for $1.

  • Bill

“Triple-A” games are moving closer and closer to shovelware, so connecting them to self-respect in the consumer is strange.

  • Larson

I wanted to love that book so much, but it felt like it was trying too hard.

  • Tyler

That was a very nice way to review a game, or at least show it off. MOAR!

    I was disappointed.

Kevin Smith was always my answer – if slackers are (were) the new beats – but not the only one, I’m sure.

  • Now I Get It

Roland Emmerich, son of Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson.

  • Now I Get It

I’d be keen to send them a shitheap of my mother’s old issues of “Burda” and “Butterick”. (It beats me holding a garage sale.)

Also jigsaw puzzles for the eternal debate: Springbok vs. Clementoni.

I’d be curious if the red letter crew have played Blood Dragon

  • JackgarPrime

Which, invariably, I do end up seeing under a vast majority of game review videos.

  • Cameron Vale

If it was a personality thing, I think it would be Jack as the indie gamer and Rich as the Playstation gamer.

  • Percy Gryce

Hey, where’s Taco? I think the Y2K bug got him

  • Percy Gryce

Hmm, I read the “Goblin” part of that name as referring to the legendary mischievous sprite or faerie. But you read it as referring to coprophilia. Interesting.

  • Percy Gryce

It was. But it still worked.

  • Duckler

He’s training, Rocky IV style, so that his 2000th comment will be a super-duper peach – which he will likely drown out with 200 more posts in the same thread.

  • Domo_Konnichiwa

    Surely you jest.

  • Domo_Konnichiwa

It’s in that cheasure trest over there. Go look!

  • LelouchtheFilial

He’s having a torrid love-affair with “Tobasco Jones” of the previous video comment thread.

  • niels

Loved the ending, got me laughing out loud

  • To1l3tB4by

I dig that games are getting the same red letter treatment as movies/films. More please.

  • Akka Fakka

Thank you for helping accelerate gaming’s race to the bottom and eventual collapse.

  • Domo_Konnichiwa

I think it’s referring to the great horror classic “Ass Goblins of Auschwitz” which is on Amazon right now in Kindle format.

  • Now I Get It

Wait, by which internet rule is that a real thing?

  • Domo_Konnichiwa

    Godwin’s Law.

    A synopsis:

In a land where black snow falls in the shape of swastikas, there exists a nightmarish prison camp known as Auschwitz. It is run by a fascist, flatulent race of aliens called the Ass Goblins, who travel in apple-shaped spaceships to abduct children from the neighboring world of Kidland. Prisoners 999 and 1001 are conjoined twin brothers forced to endure the sadistic tortures of these ass-shaped monsters. To survive, they must eat kid skin and work all day constructing bicycles and sex dolls out of dead children.

While the Ass Goblins become drunk on cider made from fermented children, the twins plot their escape. But it won’t be easy. They must overcome toilet toads, cockrats, ass dolls, and the surgical experiments that are slowly mutating them into goblin-child hybrids.

Forget everything you know about Auschwitz…you’re about to be Shit Slaughtered.

  • Percy Gryce

Yes, unfortunately I now know that exists.

  • Heinzy

What is this dorky nerd stuff? I came to RLM to watch fat guys discuss Star Wars, not video gueamos. The fraudometer is going of the charts with this one.

  • Now I Get It

Honestly? Potboiler-wise it sounds like a true page-turner. Plus, it transposes Godwin’s all-important moral into a story for young adults: in the future, everyone will be Hitler for 15 minutes – then they’ll die.

  • ident

I read the “AssGoblin69″ part as referring to coprophilia. At the very least some kind of mutual anilingus. If you need more details, let me know.

  • ident

As I’ve said before, trying is for assholes. The best authors close their eyes, bang the keyboard, and hope for the best.

  • asscrackconvictedfelon

Just by making the video more than 5 min long they destroy the majority of vg reviewers.

  • asscrackconvictedfelon

I felt uncomfortable watching those two looking at each other, the format does not work for me, at some point i think they were feeling the same, why cant we have a plot where they need to review shitty games in order to save the world from Chtulhu or Lil’Chtulhu.

That does sound like a parody of a neo-noir or pulp story: The Adventures of Taco Nash and Tabasco Jones. Or it sounds like the kind of thing you’d see in the kids’-menu-and-coloring-book they give you at a chain Mexican restaurant.

  • Percy Gryce

I withdraw my original comment. I decline to go any deeper into this business.

Hmm, mmm, any deeper into this business.

    {crickets, crickets}

Oh, please tell me the game has that song.

  • Percy Gryce

I wish someone would film themselves trying to order this book inside a packed bookstore. Go right up to Guest Services, ask as loudly as you can “Do you have a copy of AssGoblins of Auschwitz? I can’t find it in the Non-Fiction section.” Hilarity ensues.

  • Mitchell Taco Nash

Well, I suppose it’s time I came out of my Candandian Hibernation® and commented my 2000th comment on RLM’s webzone. Breaking new ground, just like the Star Wars prequels…

I don’t really have anything clever or interesting to say, but I DID just edit a movie trailer a few days ago, one that I spent 12 hours straight editing [sounds long, but I spend over 27 hours each day on the RLM webzone… yes, I break physics].

It’s the audio from one of the Prometheus trailers with the footage from Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy. I’ve been wanting to edit a fake trailer for years now but this is the first time I’ve ever actually completed one and I’m quite happy with how it turned out.

Also, in a few months I’ll release a follow up trailer that answers all the questions raised in this trailer, only to later release a special edition of that new trailer with extra footage that answers the new questions raised by that trailer. Like a wise man once said, it’s gonna be great!

  • LelouchtheFilial

    Oh, YEAH?
Well, I have a minor cold.

  • LelouchtheFilial

Oh, Jesus… I hope that Mr. Plinkett didn’t crash another boat or something.
    Does he NEVER learn?

  • Percy Gryce

So are you ill or just sick?

  • Mitchell Taco Nash

Guys, it happened… the Care Boars got me. It’s been months since the last encounter. I got a full 6 seconds into the video before I could stop. 6 seconds is all it takes for the visions to come back…

Is there a help group for RLM viewers to get over their Care Boar PTSD?

  • LelouchtheFilial

You insult us by using the words “help” and “group.”
The Care Boars show us that Man is both selfish and, in all ways that matter, alone in this godless universe.

  • Mitchell Taco Nash

I’m a regular RLM commenter, so probably both.

  • LelouchtheFilial

Ohh, wait, you meant *rogue*-like, right? I wondered why you started asking about blusher…

  • Adrian Wood

His explanation doesn’t match though. Either what we saw was the game running at the speed they played it (in which case it was far slower than it was supposed to be), or they slowed the footage to match the framerate used elsewhere as he suggested (in which case, firstly, how are the sounds and music playing at the right speed and matching the footage, and secondly, isn’t it horribly misrepresentative of the game to show all game footage at 33%-50% of how it actually plays?).

“The Cincinnati Kids”, how could I forget?

“Mike’s company sends him out on the main chance with bogus plans to grift the contract for a new addition to the amusement park. Meanwhile, Carol sends Bobby and Cindy out disguised as park mascots to roam the lot as carnival lice. But Greg, too hormonally distracted to stall for them, hound-dogs Marge at the football kiosk. But here’s the kicker: without even trying, Alice gets laid on the log ride. Splooosh!

The episode won the series its first primetime Emmy and marked David Mamet’s first foray into TV writing.” – Synopsis courtesy of VH1’s “Pop-Up Video”

  • Mark Bisone

It’s yet another artful dodge. “Previously Recorded” is an anagram of “Overproduces Direly.”

Then again, it’s also an anagram of “Coddle Riper Voyeurs”, so maybe it’s a comment about extending their brand to satisfy the the video game crowd.

  • Percy Gryce

Brings back lots of memories. My mother worked for Taft Broadcasting, which owned the park at the time. So I spent a lot of time there. Road the roller coasters hundreds of times. Then I worked there for three summers. Good times.

Right, because Triple-A only means the games you don’t like. I went ahead and took it out of my original post since so many people got hung up on it. I just meant high-quality, or whatever better terminology we have to describe that when it comes to games. And before someone tells about how big studio doesn’t always = fun, I know. I can fire up an emulator for free. And as much as I liked FEZ, how about: fuck overpriced, pixelated hipster platformer bundle-ware it its stupid asshole.

That, or it just shows that the assholes running were greedy enough to think that always advancing to the “next” video would be a good way to artificially boost views & ad revenue. No surprise, though – these are the same dicks who have an HTML5 version of their player (which is actually MORE functional than their Flash-based player), but deliberately block it from working on desktop browsers. And apparently that’s only because the HTML5 player doesn’t show ads – it functions perfectly on desktop browsers, if you spoof the useragent for mobile Safari or Chrome.

I went and bought this game on Steam after seeing this review, and OMG, what an addictive game! I bought the game on Friday, and I finally beat it with the engineer on EASY on Monday night. I can’t wait to try it on normal, and then hard. It is totally addictive but satisfying killing all the monsters and getting unlocks.

  • Deansdale

Isn’t it a bit late for april’s fool jokes? It’s not a roguelike, it is a side-scrolling platformer… The most distinctive features of roguelikes are tile-based movement, turn based combat and a top-down view. I know the definition is getting loose nowadays but come on, just because it has randomly generated item placement it’s not a roguelike.

I just picked up this game and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it, really wasn’t expecting it to be as good as it is. It’s challenging but not to the point of being frustrating. I recommend starting on normal mode, easy mode will just spoil the game for you.
Couple of points about the review: 1) The “exploits” I think are intended by the game designers. The idea is that you engage the monsters in areas where you have the advantage. It’s kind of like hunting…did you guys learn nothing from Tree Stand Safety? 2) There is at least one item that improves jumping, which is probably why jumping is terrible to start with, it makes the item more useful. It reminds me of games like Diablo and Path of Exile where your character starts out pretty weak, and then gets more powerful as you farm for items.

  • Kjellmand

  • Charon

I dunno guys. I have to say that while I enjoy both Rich and Jack in their various appearances on RLM, this is the weakest attempt at content that RLM has produced yet. It looks great and has decent pacing, but sitting and watching people play video games is not the same experience as sitting and watching people watch movies. :P

Any facetiousness aside, the grating portion of this “series” is listening to Jack try to generalize the game for descriptive purposes. When Jack initially said “Rogue-like action game”, it hit my ear funny. I thought to myself, “why didn’t he just call it an action-platformer, because that’s what Risk of Rain really is?” It’s essentially Ristar, Dynamite Headdy or another mid-period, 16-bit era platformer with way more guns, customization and a retro aesthetic. As the vid goes on, he does use the term “action platformer”, but adds a lot of extraneous mumbo-jumbo to describe the programming or design elements that differentiate the game from others in its genre.

Regardless of popular opinion, the concept of genre was established to prevent people from putting a thousand needless descriptors on something that shares or shared common elements with another in its grouping. So, at the risk of sounding pretentious, is Jack just trying to sound smart in front of Rich Evans?

  • Charon

    Hi, I’m GORB.

  • MooChoo

I know this is late but this kind of response annoys me.

You are on Red Letter Media’s website, they watch things and make videos critiquing them, sometimes their criticisms are very negative. Would you say the same thing to them?

“Don’t like it, don’t watch it” just means “I Don’t want to hear this opinion!!!!”. He will watch it because he doesn’t know if he likes it, and when he’s done he will voice his judgement in the hopes of communicating why he did or didn’t like it so that it can be improved,

  • ident

This thread has more people defending “roguelikes” than assholes demanding Plinkett reviews. I’m ashamed for us all.

Being a big gamer and a fan of RLM, I really look forward to more of this. I’m going to check out Risk of Rain now, the pixel style reminds me of Cave Story. Have you guys checked out Mercenary Kings on Steam? Would be interested to hear your opinions.

I mean how much more could you possibly fuck up the entire webzone, which is usually solely about movies!
And while the Animated series is very slowly getting better, the unfortunate reality of Pre-Rec is that it’ll stay like this. Forever. It will never get better. It can never be fixed.
If you’re someone who’s a gamer and an RLM fan, who says his least favorite content is Mr. Plinkett’s reviews, then I suggest you stop reading this comment right now, before I carefully explain to you-Ah, fuck it!

Jack n Rich I just want to say thank you. Nowadays it’s very hard to find an honest reviewer who tries to be objective. You guys are really nailing it. Thank you.

This should be filed under ‘Previously Recorded’ just like the lastest episode so people don’t miss out on this goodness.

You mention being from the NES generation, so why are you complaining about having to figure out on your own what the items do? The Legend of Zelda had shops where you didn’t know what you were buying. Even contemporary games have items that you just gotta try out to see what they do. In Halo, if you find a gun you haven’t seen before, you just gotta pick it up and fire it.

I loved this show, the ending was perfect. Hope you guys do more of these.
