Rich and Jack sit around and do nothing for 20 minutes then it all ends with a loud noise!!! PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS

I thought Rich was dead from that Tums fiesta?

  • Ret Marut

    Me personally, I enjoy parachuting.

  • hogscraper

PUBG is for people who aren’t any good at other shooters like CoD or BF. Its the only thing I can think of as to why people would love a game where not everyone has the same chance at gearing up and where looking over walls without risk of being seen is possible. Its pretty much all the negatives of combat from Dayz combined.

  • Jack Burton

“Lucky enough to be born in the white circle”. High five!

  • MichaelKz

    Very telling isn’t it?

  • Steven Gibbs

Should have tried the spike weapon

  • LameSame

Woah, man. This game is an analogy for life?!

  • this was filmed prior to his demise

  • Steven Gibbs

JoshOG plays this game on twitch, on average he wins (first place) 50% of the games he plays. If someone sneaks up from behind you, it’s probably something you did / should have noticed to not get into that position. You can’t look at the very last step after you already messed up and say look luck. Not sure if you wore good headphones or headphones at all but they let you know where you’re getting shot from. If you’re running till you get sniped, you’re probably running at a bad time, running in a bad area, or should make a car a higher priority. Death cams would be nice to help beginners learn though as long as they weren’t in team games otherwise you’d pass on the info to your team.

  • RLMkeepitup

Jack spends the majority of his time hiding in a bush, inside a videogame ????

  • LameSame

    In real life too

  • Urdus

“Beeing social is work”. Rich is right. But still millions play CS GO or WoW. Instead of beeing played only on Lan partys once a week we play today online around the clock nonstop. The princess has to wait. I need one more match. One more raid. To proof who what exactly? Story? What was this again? Online gaming might be the thing now but luckely not the only thing.

PUBG is a weird game in that it takes a *lot* of skill and has a *lot* of randomness at the same time. Watching streams of excellent players, these guys definitely are skilled, and it shows in that they can often get back-to-back wins. They develop a sense of where the campers are, they can spot people who are just specs across a field, their aim is amazing. However, these same guys still lose games in the first minute, or in the first 3 minutes, like everyone else, because of RNG.

Interesting also to note that this game is basically the spiritual opposite of Overwatch, in that Overwatch tries to be a fun experience for people of all skill levels. Can’t aim? Play Mercy, and at the end of the match you get awarded with a gold or silver medal for healing, even if you suck and lose. Everyone gets trophies for participation! In PUBG, 99/100 people just get shit on.

Randomness is really what this game is about. It’s fun to scavenge and sometimes get great stuff. (See: Elder Scrolls games, Fallout games.) Also, sometimes you randomly get a lot further in the game than other times, making a win seem possible if you keep playing. And if you keep playing you do get better…but you still get randomly shit on frequently.

  • If they forced a first person perspective I could get more into this type of game – I was always turned off of DayZ by the prospect of being constantly spotted and sniped by people hiding behind shit in 3rd person. That’s my personal pet peeve with this type of PvP game – you cannot do proper stealth in a third person perspective. I don’t understand in general why 3rd person games want to be tactical shooters.. or visa versa. I just don’t think it works.

  • bt

They have First Person only servers already. Its up on the Test Server and will be public soon.

  • bt

CoD and BF are both total shit. They’re like the Mc.Donald’s of shooters. Actual good FPS are games like Quake, or Counter Strike. PUBG isn’t even a shooter first, its more of a survival game.

  • Eric Cobb

Almost every death you showed as an example of a bull shit death was your own fault. ESPECIALLY the one at like 16:20ish. You literally have the open door sound effect in the video. Why did you turn your back on the stairs, you know the only way up there. Because you’re bad.

  • moisan4 .

This game should have only been 1st person POV. It took months to get 1st person, and 3rd person makes this game garbage.

  • Troll Prince : Pussy Slayer

When are you hack frauds going to review Dunkirk? are doing a Double-D with Detroit?

    Double-D! Disappointed Dunskis!

  • Pop Culture Reference

I didn’t know they made a video game based on the Mad Foxes movie?

  • Pop Culture Reference

They only review video games on Pre-Rec.

  • Pop Culture Reference

So he pulled a Sean Spicer?

  • Pop Culture Reference

The best first person shooters are on the news.
    **sees self out**

  • Pop Culture Reference

He will be buried with full military honors in a bathtub of piss. Colin, Jim, the Showbiz Bear, and Palpy will be his pall bearers.

What site are we on, sweetheart?

  • psycojester

Pre-Rec is kind of interesting because it gives us an insight into how the lowest common denominator feel about games. It’s probably a very valuable resource if you’re making a game and want to see how randoms will respond to it. Rich and Jay are objectively bad at games, respond to being challenged by becoming frustrated and constantly blame the system for their own refusal to learn.

Battlegrounds is a great game because it gives you infinite possibilities for emergent firefights with a ridiculous array of variables to work with. Instead they chose to play the game by sitting stationary in a house and then complain about how the game is boring, instead of considering factors like lines of sight for areas, or likely density of players based on resources or the planes line that round.

If you’re willing to contest others for resources it’s basically impossible to get screwed for gear outside of the opening couple of minutes of the game.

  • This game is like Hunger Games. They steal every idea from Battle Royale but somehow completely miss the point of the original and at the same time have no point of their own^^

  • Jessey Bowman

This is also in very early development. So there’s always time for improvement.

  • FiachSidhe

Looks like yet another ugly perpetual-early access survival free for all gankfest for the twitchy teen set. And it’s “inspired” by Battle Royale (the point where the creator thinks the game is the “final version” of the concept). Bonus.

  • FiachSidhe

“Pre-Rec is kind of interesting because it gives us an insight into how the lowest common denominator feel about games.”

“Battlegrounds is a great game because it gives you infinite
possibilities for emergent firefights with a ridiculous array of
    variables to work with.”

    Easy, fanboy.

  • Chewbacca

PUBE and BJ are OK. But IC no point in catching COD anytime soon.

  • Derbrererd

    Now there’s an idea

  • illuminatedwax

cranky old men yell at a game that they can’t figure out

  • Gallen Dugall

A program someone wrote came in third place through randomly generated actions. Like most modern games the gameplay is focused on providing an illusion that player actions and decisions are meaningful while all actual results are random or scripted.

  • LameSame

Close: Sean Spicer pulled a Jack Packard.

  • LameSame

I’m surprised they didn’t talk about how much this game just looks fucking bland.

  • RLMkeepitup

this premise seems more entertaining in concept

  • RLMkeepitup

there’s too many gamez to play nowadays. how do they get selected for this show..

  • psycojester

It’s 100 independent agents who dropped into random locations with random loot moving towards a randomly determined location on a 7kmx7km map. What part of that isn’t a gigantic array of variables?

  • How come in all these types of games the characters look like they’re molded out of CG clay from the early 2000s? I’m not a graphics snob at all, but I’ll admit to these games looking a bit undeveloped in the graphical department. Or at least behind in the times.

  • Chowderbatter

“I spend most of my time in a bush.”

    — Sentence rarely spoken by gamers.

  • Chowderbatter

    “They want to discourage camping.”

A better way to do this would be to have an escalating “camping meter.”

If you remain immobile for longer than one minute, there will be a glowing waypoint which appears in the game sky to guide gamers to you. If you move, the waypoint marker disappears. This also adds an additional strategy element where you can camp, trigger the marker showing your location, then you quickly relocate as other players converge on your former position. When the players arrive at the shack they think you’re inside of, you snipe them from an area ridge or bush.

  • Steve B.

It’s an online action game with 100 players and a huge map, and it’s being developed by a small studio and sold for $30. All of those things considered, I think it looks fine.

  • Steve B.

I turned it off when they started complaining about how the game has a low skill threshold after spending ten minutes showing clips demonstrating how bad they were at the game versus the average streamer. If luck is too influential in determining the outcome of the game I guess Rich and Jack must be really, really unlucky, lol

  • Steve B.

I mean, if you chose a random drop zone and then just went AFK until you died, and did this over and over again, eventually you’d come in third just by virtue of landing in an area close to where the match ends but in a spot where no one notices. Keep in mind coming in third in PUBG just means you were the 98th player
to die, it doesn’t say anything else about your performance in the
    match.

If that fact takes away from your enjoyment of the game, I doubt you’d enjoy any large-scale shooter. Maybe stick to chess or something. I think it’s weird when people insist that more chaotic games render a player’s actions and decisions meaningless. I mean, the outcomes of your decisions in day-to-day life are often determined by factors beyond your control, but you probably don’t consider your decisions in life meaningless.

  • Thanatos

How the hell did they make a multiplayer shooter with one life and no kill cam? Counterstrike was like 20 years ago, idiots.

  • Thanatos

“with a ridiculous array of variables to work with”

The only variable that seems to matter is who sees the other person first. There’s a reason why Counterstrike and all competent shooter maps funnel players towards each other with no ability to get behind people in the beginning of the match.

  • Thanatos

You really mean bad at Counterstrike. People bad at Counterstrike play COD and BF and other consolized shooters.

  • Gallen Dugall

Life is meaningless. I play games for the illusion of making decisions that are meaningful.

  • hogscraper

lol so Lana Del Ray is the most gifted musician in the world right now? How does that work? Generally the most watered-down bullshit is what is most popular.

  • FiachSidhe

And on paper that sounds great if that’s what you’re into. But in practice it sounds like a giant tedious, poorly balanced mess. Where amazing battles constitute a tiny fraction of the resulting experience.

  • FiachSidhe

Because it’s cheap and they all asset flip.

  • Pop Culture Reference

But spoken by porn stars. Hey-ooo!
**mimes golf swing, salutes the troops, sees self out**

  • Pop Culture Reference

I keep getting the blandness and Jack confused.

  • Pop Culture Reference

If you’re going to harass me, have the common courtesy to buy me flowers first.

  • Pop Culture Reference

Well, Spicer can’t pull much else these days.

  • Pop Culture Reference

Did Lana Del Ray and Taylor Swift switch bodies in some Freaky Friday scenario I was unaware of?

  • Camahan

A kill cam defeats the purpose of the team aspect of the game where all of the fun is.

  • I absolutely hate your shirt, Jack!

  • you deserve to die with that shirt on. don’t question how or why 😉

  • hogscraper

She was number 1 last week in billboard rankings. Also, are you implying Taylor Swift is the greatest musician in the world?

  • Thomas

I get that the game is hugely popular so you want to make a video about it, but it seems strange to post a half hour review that includes complaints about features that have been discussed for a game in early access. I mean I get some of the complaints (like the kill cam (personally I want one for post team loss so you can use it for duo/squads)), but still.. some of these things are in the pipes.

My other problem with the review is that these clips I’ve seen so far are all solo rounds. In my experience the game shines when you play with other people. The rarity of winning is what makes the game so rewarding.

  • Troll Prince : Pussy Slayer

Not answering the question. What site is this?

  • What you’re describing reminds me of how The Ship (Source version) worked. Everyone had a quarry (kill mark), and you were updated with their location in moderate increments of time – but that also meant you were someone’s mark and that your location was being updated to someone out there (as long as they hadn’t yet been murdered by their hunter and so on and so forth). So it did lead to situations like… leading someone into one of many empty cabins below deck just by spending enough time in there, only to hide in another momentarily, and appear behind them at the door with a butcher knife when they went to check the first. It could be fun, I don’t know how well it’d work in a game like PUBG but it’s a system with strategic merits.

  • Vector

So…you’re saying you don’t like “realistic” military style shooters? And therefore suck at them?

    OK, fair enough.

  • Vector

So…an excellent lesson in real life, then? LOL

  • Pop Culture Reference

The American Philosophical Society message boards.

  • Pop Culture Reference

Of course not. That honor goes to Tiny Tim.

  • Ron Bennington

I don’t get your line of reasoning. They shouldn’t review the game, hold off, or complain about a specific thing, because it *might* change in the future? This sort of mentality among gamers is frankly retarded, and is why developers get away releasing half finished games that stay in early access forever. This is a product for sale now (for 30 US$), and so any criticism is valid, IMO. That being said, their complaints mostly seem to center about not liking this type of game, and no being that good at it.

  • Foreman 371

By popularity like this and the rest are niche games which are rarely discussed elsewhere.

  • Foreman 371

That’s true but the game concept will have to be the same in the end. Meaning safe zones will always be a thing, cheap kills will always be a thing. There is no improvement for that in sight or you risk to loose your playerbase.

  • Jessey Bowman

Redlettermedia is operating under the presumption that a video game MUST follow a formula which caters to a player’s experience.

I consider video games that act as “simulator” as interesting & rewarding in their own way. That is to say: a game does not need to hold my hand, or be easy to play, or exist to give me satisfaction.

So Battlegrounds then does an amazing job at bringing players into this chaotic environment & watching what unfolds. The psychological aspects at play are really interesting to watch & discover.

  • Foreman 371

you set realistic in “” because otherwise that would mean most of the time we would be killed by friendly fire and 90% of the dead would be civilians, right? Make JRPGs! Not war!

  • Vector

I hate JRPGs so much that when I think of them I give silent thanks to the memory of Harry Truman. That’s how much I hate them! 😛

To each their own, of course.

  • Eugene Han

Ahh… you ignored my post lol
Shame on you RLM… I hoped you were better than this.
    You just lost a fan.
    Adieu.

  • Jones

If nothing’s happening it’s because you aren’t making it happen.
Go and explore. Be the first kid on your block to get a confirmed kill. Make Joker proud.
