      First of the Worst.

  • Roger Sterlings Lucky Strikes

    Oh My GOD!!!!

  • diehounderdoggen

Today on Red Letter Media! Hack meets Fraud in the polite discussion of the ages! Who will prove the victor in this spine chilling cinematic dialogue? Nobody! All these movies suck!

  • Brad Parks

My life is nearing completion. And done.

  • Domo_Konnichiwa

They wouldn’t give us enough time to come up with Kool-aid and Jonestown jokes. Now we gotta come up with ways to make bad ninjas funny.

    • HNSZ

Making a jokes about Jonestown is no easy task. Like I’m also still waiting for a good holocaust joke.

  • Percy Gryce

Wow, first they lull us into satiety with some Quick Cold Cuts, and then they serve up a ninja feast. Damn you, Mike & Jay, damn you all to hell!

  • John Krzeminski

Lots of respect for Len Kabasinski coming on the show and having a good sense of humor about everything.

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

You’re only saying that because your last name sounds like Len’s. All the ‘ski folks have to stick together.

    • Gene Parmesan

I’m glad that he seemed to loosen up as the episode went on. Good on ya Len.

      • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

        thanks for watching sir!

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

thanks for watching sir! stick around!

i want Len Kabasinski/Rich Evans roadtrip movie now

    • Striker, Ted

You really want to Rick Evans punched in the face for two hours? Me too!

      • Domo_Konnichiwa

Well it’s better than 60 minutes of scooping out canned dog food.

  • Springheel

    Len keeps pronouncing Kosugi wrong

    • Gene Parmesan

Don’t tell him that, he’ll karate chop the shit out of you.

      • Mitchell Taco Nash

And laugh while doing so as it’s one of the three things of his funny list.

  • Percy Gryce

Wow, Len Kabasinski is a person and not a cartoon.

  • Percy Gryce

Wizard has really let his beard go crazy.

    • dollar store cashier wife

rich evans wasn’t lying.9/11 was indeed an inside job.

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

This is the first time we’ve seen Wizard with a plain white outfit. No crazy tight prints. Progress!

  • LelouchtheFilial

Okay, going into a new video. Commenting before watching, because I’m a fucking loser.
Pffft… Choose ‘n’ lose? With all that Rich Evans and all that alcohol, it’s more like “Jews ‘n’ booze.”

  • HNSZ

It’s interesting to see each their reaction faces. If you’ve done coke a few times you know this is a massive dick move.

    • Guest

      disregard, disqus nonsense

    • Jason

Yeah, Jack in particular is like “That’s not cool, man!”.

  • Percy Gryce

Perm Mulletguy. I’m sorely tempted to change my screen name.

  • diehounderdoggen

Does Len seem a little stiff and uncomfortable in this? Maybe he’s intimidated by the sheer star power at the table.

    • stryker1121

And yet he’s still cooler than everyone in the crew…put together, no less!

      • Percy Gryce

Huh? Did you not see Rich Evans on the panel?

        • Mitchell Taco Nash

Yeah, he’s the definition of cool, especially when it comes to fire safety! Hell, you could even says he’s… ice… cold.

    • stryker1121

..or he knows these hipster frauds have been cracking on his shitty movies for years.

    • Percy Gryce

I don’t if Len came up with the question, but his asking the rest of the panelists what the best scene in each movie was was a good move and I liked him best “moderating” those short segments.

      • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

that’s what the guys said….im very Aspergers and I like my structure.

        • http://faddlechud.tumblr.com/ Faddlechud

I have a similar medical condition – it’s called Butt Tacos.

          • Domo_Konnichiwa

            Is that treatable with salsa?

          • Mitchell Taco Nash

            You rang?

          • Percy Gryce

That looks like a hobo with a skin condition.

            Oh, it’s just Taco.

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

I kept looking at the table like it was Da Vinci’s Last Supper, and Len was Jesus.

    • AnalogyShark

I think he got confused at the end when Jay claimed Ninja III to take home. He was like “Oh, does whoever like the movie just take it? Like the Sophie’s Choice of bad movies? And whichever one no one defends gets destroyed.”

      • Percy Gryce

Rules or no rules, he deserved a lovely parting gift.

    • Saruma

Actually, I was going to comment at how he sort of took over and led the discussion. I don’t think he was intimidated at all.

      • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

a lifetime of martial arts instruction and a couple black belts help…I don’t get nervous much unless it involves centipedes and sharks

        • Mitchell Taco Nash

          • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

            touché’ my friend. touché’

There is a film in there somewhere…

            “Sharktipede: 100 teeth, 100 legs”

          • Clan:Rewired_CCW

            The Human Centipede vs Man-Shark

        • Reginald Van Der Slythe III

Seriously, fuck centipedes. I’m all right with sharks, but centipedes…just something about them gives me the screaming willies.

  • stryker1121

Nice! Now my life has just under 50 minutes of meaning!

    • HNSZ

Thanks for wasting 14 seconds of my life.

      • Gerhard Van der Berg

        Damn you read slow mate.

::karate chops you 3 times in a row::

  • Jason

Everyone seemed awkward and uncomfortable. I loved it!

  • Avery

OK, I have a confession to make. I’ve gotten obsessed with the “???????????????????” title that you guys impose on films sometimes. I often imagine a line of question marks hovering over people as they talk in everyday life. Am I weird?

  • Meester Smeeth

It’s comforting to know you can afford Len Kabasinski.

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

and I was fresh off the set of ZOMBIE KILLERS (starring Billy Zane, Misha Barton, and Dee Wallace Stone) and choreography the stunts for CARRIE:THE MUSICAL on the theatre stage….

      • Meester Smeeth

Sounds great, man, hope it all works out great for you. And I’ll look forward to ZOMBIE KILLERS, I’ve been on a bit of a zombie trip lately.

  • ANIME PRINCESS

Im just amazed that they had Len Kabasinski in this episode

    • dollar store cashier wife

first they got heidecker and now they got kabasinski.rlm is on it’s way to become a household name for frauds!

      • Mitchell Taco Nash

        Don’t forget Colin from Canada!

        • Domo_Konnichiwa

          Sexiest runner ever!

  • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

Thanks to everyone of RLM and their awesome fans. It was my privilege to go to WI and shoot this episode. Truly smart, funny guys and the fans ive interacted with on their FB page etc etc have been great. I got the stray “you know they’re making fun of you right Len?” kind of thing……no, I hadn’t thought of that (sarcasm). But honestly, I treat everything as an opportunity to learn, grow, have fun, meet new people and their works, and maybe even get better make and better projects in the future. Thanks to all.
    Your friend,
    Len K

    • Percy Gryce

You were great. Of course, you’re damned to hell for laying hands on the demigod called by men “Richevans,” but still thanks for playing.

      • Domo_Konnichiwa

It adds to the fan fiction lore we so love to create about The Rich.

        • Percy Gryce

          Fiction? Create?

          • Domo_Konnichiwa

Sometimes creativity just spews forth from our bowels uncontrollably. Other times the truth just sets itself free.

        • HNSZ

What happened to setting the bar? I will not rest until Dick van Dyke hosts this show.

          • Domo_Konnichiwa

Will he be the next punchable face on the Choose n Lose wall? Right next to Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore?

    • dollar store cashier wife

      reaaal human beannnn

      anddd a reall herooo

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

Did you reach out to them, or did they reach out to you?

      • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

they had reached out to me and were cool dudes.

        • Domo_Konnichiwa

Sweet! My husband says thank you for answering.

          • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

            *karate bows to you both*

    • ANIME PRINCESS

you were brilliant on the show and that was a lovely jacket you had on too

      • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

        it was $20

    • Meester Smeeth

      You fit right in, sir.

    • rikkibarnes

You’re awesome. A great sport and an excellent addition to this episode. Kudos, Mr. Kabasinki! Hope to see you again on BOTW (or even a HiB XD) in the future!

    • Gene Parmesan

By up-voting you I have indirectly endorsed all those evil dictators you decided not to punch. I hope you’re happy… because I sure am.

    • Mitchell Taco Nash

I knew there was a reason they had a ninja over the middle person in the still on this video! Honestly, as someone who’s aspiring to be a filmmaker, it’s really cool to see someone who’s open to learning and isn’t afraid of criticism.

      • Gene Parmesan

Taco Nash would look great in credits.

      • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

the only way to learn my friend. its easy to weed out the “it just sucks” criticism with truly constructive criticism that can help you make better projects….

        • Gene Parmesan

Where does RLM tip on that scale?

        • Mitchell Taco Nash

Yeah, I feel that RLM does a good job leaning more into critique than criticism as they can often insight into the production of movies and behind the scenes things when they discuss films, helping explain why certain choices might be made, saying how things are done, ways that a film could have worked better, and why certain things don’t work.

          • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

agreed. perhaps BLOOD MERCURY wont have as many dutch angles…

but I cant make any promises.

          • WrongWithYourFace

I always love the technical insight to the movies RLM has on their reviews. Often reviewers merely scratch the surface.

    • Manioc

You’re the best! You also have Jessi’s eyes.

      • Percy Gryce

And he better give them back.

    • Pablo Martinez

Now do the same as Ninja Warriors, and shoe-horn on your next movies pictures of Rich Evans on every scene possible.

    • Mark Bisone

I remember back when I was covering a New York boxing beat, a lot of guys would play the game where you’d pick which prizefighter you’d want backing you up in the proverbial dark alley fight. After watching Lenny Kabs brutalize those paper targets this episode… well, I’d probably still pick any of them other dudes.

However, if I could pick two guys, I think Len might actually make the team. If only so he could say “Whoever is not Firstenburg is Lastenburg”, while a prime Hagler performs brain surgery on the bad guys.

    • WrongWithYourFace

I think you just broke the upvote record, Mr. Kabasinski. You deserve it.

      • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

I’d say that was the best episode yet, no joke.

        :D

    • 塩辛い

You’re awesome for doing this! Thank you very much!

I have a question: you’ve mentioned Asperger’s a couple times in your replies and I wonder, do you actually have an autism spectrum disorder?

I have the uttermost respect for people who’ve managed their ASD and became awesome.

If you do have it, I would love to hear you talk about it.

Thanks again, this BoTW episode was the most fun I’ve had on the internet in years.

      • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

not diagnosed no. nor am I going to pursue I diagnosis at this point in my life, but I share TONS of the symptoms of Aspergers. My son is on the spectrum with PDD-NOS.
and I thrive on structure. and don’t do overly well when its disrupted. ive actually learned to make better films and manage my issue here by scheduling less to shoot in one day (limit cramming stuff), trying to slow down with things and give myself more options n terms of each days shoot. I know its the running joke for RLM and their fans but actually I can look into my work and see a lot of progress from SWAMP ZOMBIES to SKULL FOREST…
and most of that comes from learning, growing, adapting, and implementing it all together into a plan/project…..

        • 塩辛い

Most aspies get better just by growing up. Who knows, maybe martial arts is what got you by without the need of a diagnosis. Best of lucks with your son’s condition and all your future and current endeavors.

    • tjp77

You rock! I hope you can come back and do another episode sometime!

    • Derek Martz

You are delightful. I mean it. You bring me delight. Please come back over and over.

    • Memoman

What a class act, this Len K. That’s martial arts discipline and balance right there.

I always find martial arts masters to be smiling happy people who are also physically prime. My friend and martial arts teacher is one of the most positive guys I know, and that transfers over to you.

I’m glad to somehow have gotten a glimpse at the real Len K guy. Just a fellow happy to be able to make his movies. I think we can all relate to that. And I feel everyone in here we’ll be rooting for mister K from now on. You always want good be people to do well, and creative people to create.

      • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

you sir have just won the internet with this post.

        thank you *wipes tear away/sniffles*.

I have the utmost respect for RLM guys (and girl) and their fans. Being involved with this is the most fun ive had in filmmaking endeavors so far…im very glad to have went out and did it.

but make no mistake…whomever this “Mac” (from the sunny in philly program) is……id beat that ass down. then help him up, bow to him, and we’ll go enjoy pizza and fine liquor together…

seriously great post. I mean it whole heartedly. thank you.

        • Memoman

I’d rather think you’ve won the internet over Mr. K! From now on, your name means dedication, hard work and a genuine, great attitude towards life in general. Best of luck in your future endeavors, sir. You have forever won our utmost respect and encouragement. It’s like we’re all suddenly RLM family or something!

          • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

            …and I like that!

          • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

and not only that but hopefully everyone (like me or not….enjoy my films or not) can take from this experience and have no need to call me “Mr. K”

            my friends call me “Len”.

  • LelouchtheFilial

“Lethal Ninja wasn’t no dime-store hoe.”
It was more of a Dollar Store Cashier Wife.

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

But not quite Fuck Me I’m January (He’s new around these parts.)

      • Gene Parmesan

He?! You just ruined the whole fanta– Nevermind, it still works.

    • dollar store cashier wife

i feel obligated to upvote this

      • WrongWithYourFace

Me too. Because I thought the exact same thing.

But you’re clearly an upvote hoe.

Me too. Because I thought the exact same thing.

But you’re clearly an upvote hoe..

        • dollar store cashier wife

          it’s all about the smack.

    • Guest

You’re right. Just like Lethal Ninja, none of those elements make sense when put together.

  • LelouchtheFilial

I like to think that, after Len got through with his tangent about how funny farts are, Jessie left Mike for him and never looked back.

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

I just liked that Mike and Jessi’s punchable faces were next to each other on the Choose n Lose wall. Together until the bitter end.

      • LelouchtheFilial

I’m also guessing is that Jessie is usually the one who farts during the screening of these movies.

        God, that’s discusWHYAMIAROUSED?

        • Domo_Konnichiwa

Well, it can’t be Rich Evans, because his leather throne would give it away too easily. Maybe that’s why Wizard leaves to go get snack refills….

          • LelouchtheFilial

It’s entirely possible that Mr. Plinkett is leaking more “Pandora air” into the room, and everyone is going to die a horrible death.

          • Domo_Konnichiwa

They’re gonna need a bigger canister. Space Cop’s ship is HUGE.

        • Mitchell Taco Nash

Thankfully I know a girl that thinks farts are funny.

Perhaps I’ll go down to my basement, unchain her, and get a picture of her for you guys.

      • LelouchtheFilial

To quote Rich Evans, “Awwwwwww, that’s adorable!”

  • LelouchtheFilial

I wonder if that dry ice that they were using to make the Ultimate Ninja in ninja warrior was leftover dry ice from the Mexican ‘Santa Claus’ movie.
Hey, they managed to get rid of it, after all.

  • LelouchtheFilial

So, that police chief drove out to the desert with his buddy and wound up getting stabbed in the back of his head sword.
My guess was, he was going out there with his friend in order to get stabbed in the FRONT of his head with a “sword.”

    *Slide-whistle.*

  • killermicrobe

So is it safe to say that this is probably the best Best of The Worst episode yet or at least gives the Miami Connection episode a run for its money?

    • Percy Gryce

It’s the best BOTW guest-starring Len Kabsinski–I think we can all agree on that.

      • Domo_Konnichiwa

I wonder what everyone’s favorite BoTW episodes are, excluding WoTW. Cuz that’s a tough decision to make.

        • dollar store cashier wife

          xmas epizode bar none

        • thatsrightjay

the bee costume episode, it really left an impression on me

        • Jason

The episode with Colin From Canada was my favourite (probably some nationalist bias there).
but honourable mention to the Alien Seed episode for “Fuck you Rich Evans”, one of Wizard’s best moments.

        • Liz Frazier

The Amazing Bulk episode, with R.O.T.O.R. as a very close second.

          • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

I just saw ROTOR a few weeks ago….love it. funny stuff. and it has GREAT cover art. superb.

            loooooooove ELVES!

          • Paul Schumann

yeah Miami Connection was too funny to see them review

        • sepiajack

Crazy Fat Ethel II for me, not just because of my obvious bias to that movie, but because Gillian was hilarious in it, Jack had the unending zingers, breaking news with Rich Evans, the way Texas Psycho was ultimate destroyed…

        • Daniel Nguyen-Phuoc

Oh, and who doesn’t have a special place in their heart for the reactions to Xtro?

          • Domo_Konnichiwa

That and Vagina Monster Mouth are excellent reaction scenes.

    • William

Showbiz Pizza Bear is best moment ever if it wasn’t pre-planned by mike which I can’t help but suspect.

      • Mitchell Taco Nash

Their advertisements are kinda funny, too.

        • WrongWithYourFace

What is it with the caption getting shorter every time you post that?

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

They have Wi-Fi out in your own personal jungle paradise?

      • DanceK

Mine doesn’t. I have to rely on AOL.

  • Niall McHugh

I like the idea of having guests on BOTW like this.
Man, now I really want to see them do this with Tommy Wiseau

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

      Or Don Doler’s corpse.

    • sepiajack

      or George Lucas…

      • Domo_Konnichiwa

George Lucas wouldn’t get the point of this if he watched all of RLM’s content and was told how to behave.

  • Jason

A folding chable is where you put your chesure trests to keep them safe from werdwolves.

I really hope you guys had a discussion with him on his film making. After how fascinated and mystified you were by him after the Halloween episode it would be a shame if you didn’t get into his movies with him.

    • AceRay

There’s a separate interview coming up soon with Len shortly.

  • WrongWithYourFace

I find it disturbing how Len just sits there in the middle of the shot, looking like he’s in some sort of meditative state.

    • Paulus Cañamonjas

Well, he is the only ninja on that chable. He must´ve been thinking about the impending hit on Rich Evans.

At least it seems like he is putting thought into the things he does. Also, he was smiling and laughing along with the gang. We all have watched all the RLM stuff, but who knows how much Len has watched outside of the stuff involving his films. I thought the whole thing was very well done. It really could have been a train wreck.

This was great! Len is fantastically well-read and informative. Shame that his mic gets overridden by the others when they talked over him.

Hope you come back for another show sometime Len!

    • Thanatos2k

It sounded like they were having sound problems at numerous points with mics cutting out.

Len, I am a budding filmmaker and would honestly love to be apart of your next production, either in front of or behind the camera. while I’ve been out of the martial arts game for a few years now, I do still work to keep myself in shape and modestly limber these days. Was “Ninja: Prophecy of Death” behind one of those punchable faces?

        • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

no. the RLM asked if I wanted to review it with them but out of respect for my cast & crew I declined. I cant have fun with it like the RLM can, and you guys (the fans of RLM) can. itd be a disservice to you guys. but im sure in a future episode they’ll review it for you guys!

          • Gene Parmesan

I don’t know. I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear a lot less Kabasinski bashing in the future, seeing as how you’ve been so cool about all this. I might just have to go and watch it myself.

          • William

Is it actually randomized what is behind each hole? Did you have to say which faces you would punch in advance?

Okay, Len was a great addition to the crew after he warmed up a bit, but he really messed up the routine. I don’t like it when things are different. Mike suddenly changed seats with Jack. Wizard magically appeared mid-viewing in an office chair.

      • Mitchell Taco Nash

I’m curious to know a bit more about Rich Evans being a health nut if you could share [but I will also understand if he may want discretion about it].

        • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

he only drank tea and water and I don’t believe I saw him eat anything. ever. like all weekend. ever. the man is a pillar of discipline……and truly a funny, cool dude as are the rest of them. Evans may be the face of RLM….but in my experience it truly truly TRULY seems like a great team effort.

          • Mitchell Taco Nash

That’s interesting to know. Thanks for sharing. :) For some reason, from all the RLM content I’ve watched, I’ve gotten a vibe that RichEvans is a gentle soul that might not sometimes have a voice or be very outspoken, but he seems to have a great group of friends and coworkers at RLM. From the behinds the scenes clips it seems like he isn’t afraid to do hard, boring, long work, either.

          • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

all of the RLM media crew are awesome. I mean that whole-heartedly. cool people with passion for what they do. They respect their fans greatly and work hard to produce good shit for you guys. this I know.

How many teaspoons cups of sugar did he take with his tea?

        • Mike B

Haven’t you noticed that Rich seems to always drink either cola (light?) or water or a drink of similar nature whenever they have these discussions? I don’t think I remember seeing him with a beer or another alcoholic beverage like those other drunk hacks usually have.
I’m glad to hear he takes care of himself so that we may enjoy his orgasm inducing laughter for long into the future.

          • sepiajack

I have notice that actually, but isn’t cola actually worse for a person than alcohol?

          • Mike B

Depends, light coke, no chance. The regular sugar stuff, yeah sure it’s “unhealthy”. (I believe high fructose soda in USA has way more calories than the sucrose sweetened in Europe.) Beer and Coke have about the calory content. Both consumed in moderation are just fine. But when you factor in the ethanol, beer at higher doses (eg. in daily use) is less healthy than Coke.

          • Domo_Konnichiwa

Diet Coke or Coke Zero here in the US can be worse for you than regular US coke depending on which experts you talk to.

As a note, I don’t want to get into a diet argument on a RLM website, just stating that US sodas have some crazy shit in them that other countries don’t have to worry about.

          • ident

The threat of aspartame and other artificial sweeteners is, to be charitable, inconclusive and, to be uncharitable, nonsense. The real issue, in reference to obesity, is that consuming any type of artificial sweetener appears to stimulate hunger. The reasons are complicated but recent research is bearing it out. Whether or not, in general, this stimulated hunger will result in the consumption of more calories than are offset, I’ve never seen a study on, but this is the question currently in my mind. But that aside, people who drink artificially sweetened products of any type should be aware of this.

To put this in some kind of context, research has consistently shown (rather obviously) that exercise leads to increased appetite. If you choose to exercise as a means of weight loss and you don’t watch your food intake, you will consume enough calories to offset the burned calories, perhaps more. No rational person would blame exercise for this, it’s an awareness problem. Exercise, know you will have an increased appetite and make an effort to control your food intake. Consume artificial sweeteners as part of a diet plan, understand it will have an effect upon your appetite, plan for it.

          • Kenlin Bros

            Do you like cold beer?

          • Mike B

Naw, I don’t drink alcohol. But I sure do love a cold glass of coke (usually the diet kind, mind you).

          • Kenlin Bros

            Incorrect! Sir? Sir?!

The correct answer is “Hmm… I guess I do like cold beer!”

          • Mike B

            Oh sh… I didn’t. Oh god…

I need to go have a drink, or twelve.

          • Kenlin Bros

Richevans will forgive you if you say three ‘Hail Jessi’s

          • Mitchell Taco Nash

I don’t drink, but I wouldn’t really call myself a health nut just because I don’t. I have noticed that, though. I was just surprised when Len said he was a health nut and I wanted to know a more in depth look than what I could gather from these videos alone.

Kudos to Len for correctly naming Enter the Ninja and Revenge of the Ninja as the precursors to Ninja III: Domination. As a kid growing up in the early VHS era I was a big fan of ninja movies and share Len’s appreciation for Sho Kosugi’s work.

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

loved all the 80s stuff man….LOVED the REVENGE OF THE NINJA flick. loved it. most of my VHS collection is all low-budget action/horror stuff. and I mean low budget. Ninja flicks and post-apocalyptic flicks are my fav genres of action

      • ChrisWyble(wz3d)

Len, I’m also a big fan of the post-apocalyptic genre. Especially the Italian ones. My favorite is 2019: After The Fall Of New York (you know, the one Children Of Men shamelessly ripped off. haha).
What are some favorites, if you don’t mind listing?

        • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

yeah I like 2019 as well. really cool flick and Sipkow (sp?) was far too underutilized in the 80s….should of went on to more awesome stuff (DEVILFISH is fun I thought anyways)…I have too many favs but off the top of my head, my favs in post-apocalyptic land are:
          DUNE WARRIORS
          ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK
          DOOMSDAY (love it!)
          STEEL DAWN
          EQUILIZER 2000
WARLORDS (w/ Carradine. what a strange strange film)
as for martial arts flicks of the b-movie level:
          KING OF THE KICKBOXERS
NO RETREAT NO SURRENDER II (loooooooove it!)
          MISSION OF JUSTICE
          MARTIAL OUTLAW
          BOUNTY TRACKER
          THE PERFECT WEAPON
          CIRCLE OF IRON

          • ChrisWyble(wz3d)

Doomsday! Everybody HATES that movie and I don’t understand it. Mike and Jay totally shit on it when it came out. I loved it. I still watch it over and over. The homage to Escape From New York, The Road Warrior and a few other obvious ones is excellent, but it’s the little nods to all those badass, obscure Italian movies that really impresses me. You, sir, are a man of impeccable taste.

So, when he punched Rich, he was actually punching Hitlet?

Shit, I typed ‘Hitlet’ instead of ‘Hitler’. I’ll leave it, though, because it sounds funny, like a ‘little Hitler’, a ‘Hitlet’.

  • Dan

I’m so pleased you guys ended up using Lethal Ninja. Definitely agree about its incomprehensibility. You got a couple details wrong, understandably – the character you identified as the “corrupt mayor” was in fact the corrupt police chief. And the character you called the judge was actually the mayor, who is a good guy.

How and why the mayor’s son is friends with the ninja, or the mayor’s daughter is sleeping with the drug lord, remains a mystery, however.

  • Dr. Blake Downs

A collaboration between RLM and Len Kabasinski for Space Cop, I think we might be looking at the greatest film ever made.

I don’t know, Len actually could kick his ass. He’d be too method for a role that requires him to clown around like an idiot.

I soooooo would beat his ass. trust me.

Mitchell looks more like one than you do, though. So there’s that.

  • AnimistPrimal

I was pleasantly surprised that Len wasn’t a douchebag to the guys considering I laughed my ass off when they reviewed his last movie. It shows balls and a good sense of humor. He brought up some good points, was funny, and gelled well with the group.

Hey Len! I was hoping we would get to hear some behind the scenes stories from your films, it would be great if we get something like that in a future video.

When I saw a ninja episode, I knew I would be sad if there wasn’t at least one Sho Kosugi movie in the line-up. I grew up watching those. He pretty much dominated the “Ninja Section” of my local video store as a kid. How many video stores even have a ninja section?! Sho Kosugi was the only reason I even saw Ninja Assassin.

Love that Len rattled off three of my favorite titles in his explanation of the Ninja III title. Too bad Revenge of the Ninja wasn’t in the line-up, but it’s far too competent to be the worst of anything (imo).

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

REVENGE OF THE NINJA is faaaaaaaar to “good” for BOTW. I will admit AMERICAN NINJA II: THE CONFRONTATION was behind one and I absolutely 1000% LOOOOOOOOOOOVE that movie!

Mr. Kabasinksi, I’d really like to know as an aspiring filmmaker myself: what first inspired you to make bad movies?

    • Mitchell Taco Nash

Being born. It’s the first step in most people’s lives.

when I was about 6 years old my mom would stay up with me on Saturday nights and watch a program called THE LATE GREAT HORROR SHOW which would play films like GODZILLA VS THE SMOG MONSTER, HOUSE OF WAX, REPTILICUS, etc etc…..a couple years later my younger brother and I would stay up and theyd play films like SWAMP THING etc….It has been my experience that a lot of creativity/imagination goes into “B movie cinema”….and I always wanted to express myself and ideas in a medium that I grew up loving

      and still do

      • ChrisWyble(wz3d)

I used to have a VHS tape of THE LATE GREAT HORROR SHOW that my uncle gave me when I was a kid cause I begged him to put it on every time I went to his house. Sir Robert Ghouley was the host on the tape, but I looked him up later and evidently he was just a fill in. I believe the movie was Creature From The Haunted Sea, but I could have that mixed up with all the other random, unlabeled tapes he gave me back then.

  • Herrerasaurus

Hehe funny. Histories monsters are all leaders whom where once ally/neutral to America, then turned on America and lost and now America thinks they are monsters.

    • Gene Parmesan

I don’t get it… so you don’t think Hitler, Stalin and the rest are monsters?

      • Herrerasaurus

Of course they were monsters. But no American president’s face were on there despite having put Japanese people in camps or bombing cities like Dresden or Baghdad. It’s an American list of people America hates subjectively or America is/was at war with these dictators.

        • AceRay

You admit they’re monsters, so what’s the issue here again? There’s not enough diversity? I guess Ted Bundy or John Wayne Gacy for the good old US of A could have been there too but I just don’t see what you’re complaining about.
Its not just America who hates Hitler: Pretty much all of Europe hate him too. I’d actually say that HItler is almost universally hated, with Stalin not too far behind. Kim Jung Un is quite infamous, and Bin Laden got a lot of celebration when he died. These people weren’t just the enemies of America; they’re pretty much hated the world over. Stop using RLM to try and take potshots at America for whatever reason.

          • Maverique

They were all monsters but Mike, Jay and Rich are all much much worse. Len picked the right faces to punch.

          • Gerhard Van der Berg

Except he didn’t pick Mike, he picked Jack, RIch and Jay.

          • Herrerasaurus

I’m not sure what the issue is, you people replied to me.
I think you’re making claims of which you cannot provide evidence for. Hitler was a well liked man, even by Americans until war was declared. The American magazine Time awarded Hitler Man of the Year in 1938 even.

My original point is only ever about public opinion, and the American government got theirs, just as everybody else made up depending on whose a friend or foe, even though friends might as well be Kim Jung Uns.

          • AceRay

The issue is that what you’re saying is pretty stupid and out of place on a Best of the Worst video. In fact, its just stupid in general tbh.
Well, people liked him a lot because he did a lot of great things for Germany in 1930s, he turned the entire German economy around. That was before the world found out he and his Nazi chums were putting the Jews into death camps, and then started invading Poland and bombing England. I also don’t think that Hitler, Stalin, Un are hated for crimes against humanity is that outlandish of a claim.
Why do I have to explain why attempted genocide and torture is wrong. Its not just the government tells us so; its a natural human nature to hate the decisions that Hitler and Stalin made.
Your point now appears to be “When people find out that dictators do really bad things, they are labelled monsters” NAH YOU DON’T SAY.

          • ident

Hitler was not a well liked man in the US in 1938. By that time, the persecutions of the Jews were well known and he had invaded Czechoslavakia. Time made him their Man of the Year, not because he was popular, but because he was important. They knew he was terrible. Here is an excerpt from that issue:

“All these events were shocking to nations which had defeated Germany on the battlefield only 20 years before, but nothing so terrified the world as the ruthless, methodical, Nazi-directed events which during late summer and early autumn threatened a world war over Czechoslovakia. When without loss of blood he reduced Czechoslovakia to a German puppet state, forced a drastic revision of Europe’s defensive alliances, and won a free hand for himself in Eastern Europe by getting a “hands-off” promise from powerful Britain (and later France), Adolf
Hitler without doubt became 1938′s Man of the Year.”

          • Striker, Ted

An even more hilarious aspect is Bin Laden has by far caused more death and destruction against Muslims than the U.S military, and his ideology still does after his death. Odd for someone to sort of defend him.

    • AceRay

Well, I live in New Zealand and I’d consider putting literally millions of people in death camps is pretty monstrous, Its not really a nationalistic thing here. Are you implying that people not from America DON’T consider Hitler or Stalin monsters? If RLM was from Britain or South America or even Germany, there’d probably put the same four faces up there any way.

      • Herrerasaurus

America is best at spreading their culture abroad. Most people think as Americans do. Those millions of people didn’t really have to be known to be dead by us in the here and now (because it was a propaganda piece that is true), had say Stalin not turned against the USA and the USA won.
As I just wrote to Mitchell, “It’s politics, Mitchell. And it’s filthy.”

        • AceRay

Um, Stalin isn’t infamous because of a rivalry with the USA, he was infamous because he put millions of people in prison camps. Its not that complicated.
They didn’t have Truman or Bush up there because you can argue that Truman made a sacrifice to end the war quickly with one attack and that Bush was retaliating for 911. What Hitler and Stalin did was undeniably an atrocity unless you’re racist and/or a crazy person. If they had put an American President like Truman/Nixon/whoever, the comments would be filled with “huh?” and “leave your politics out of my comedy show!” Why pick very subjective “monsters” in there when the four they picked were far less controvercial for a simple throwaway pun that’s not even crucial to the show?

          • Herrerasaurus

You wouldn’t hear much about those millions of people had it not been for the Soviet Union turning against the US. Governments that are allied cover each others backs in order to keep the peace.

The rest of your text I agree with, and was the point of my original comment as well.

The list of faces was very American, that is all. :)

          • AceRay

Its not American though; they are world wide monsters. What country in the world would say “you know, the Genocide was completely understandable.” You say that as if ONLY America are the enemies of Hitler or Stalin. Or are you from a country who wasn’t a direct participant of WW2, so the faces don’t seem monstrous to you?
Hell, I always thought of Hitler and Nazi Germany more of Churchill and England’s rival/enemy than America, they were at war for far longer. Stalin and Hitler were enemies themselves. Kim Jong Un had more enemies than just America.
I’ll give you Osama, I guess he’s a pretty “American” enemy, but still, blowing up 2000 civilians is pretty heinous and even if you live on the other side of the world, you should understand why he’d be considered a monster.

          • ident

I have to point out that the two people who have been arguing your point the most, aside from myself, are not Americans. Hitler and Stalin are seen, throughout the Western world, as monsters. This isn’t due to American propaganda or some kind of cabal, it’s because they are monsters.

    • Mitchell Taco Nash

      Post hoc ergo propter hoc.

You seem to think America only thought they were monsters after they turned on America, not after they started committing atrocities. It wasn’t that they turned on America and lost and then America saw them as monsters, it was most likely their direct actions against humanity that caused them to be viewed as monsters.

      • Herrerasaurus

I don’t think so. Governments of all stripes would gladly put aside past atrocities for the sake of diplomacy. Had any of those dictators or leaders of terrorists not turned on America, we wouldn’t think them really monsters today. It’s politics, Mitchell. And it’s filthy.

        • Mitchell Taco Nash

So, you want from talking about America as a whole [the whole USA population] and are now specifically referring to just the government? Also, I’m pretty sure the vast majority of the world considers them monsters, even the people who share the same nationality as they do. Your arguments don’t hold much water.

          • Herrerasaurus

Sorry, should have been more precise. Although I did write America,(=government in my meaning) not the American people.
The governments are always responsible. Sure, the people elect them, but the people are not the ones taking actual decisions.

The vast majority think them monsters because the US government won a war. And then proceeded to demonize the losers. As I wrote to you earlier:
“Had any of those dictators or leaders of terrorists not turned on
America, we wouldn’t think them really monsters today. It’s politics,
            Mitchell. And it’s filthy.”

So you see I blame a minority in charge, not you or your family. I hope you see the water my arguments hold now.

          • Mitchell Taco Nash

Well, me nor my family are Americans, so it was nothing personal for me.

I’ll be blunt, though. No one cares. You’re somehow taking 3 images [excluding the 4th, being Kim Jong-un] that RLM chose for comedy sake as they’re well-known, arguably very terrible dictators and turning into some weird political argument about US governments and other governments. I highly doubt anyone here cares nor wants to discuss those things. They’re here to be entertained by RLM.

I mean, it was a comedy set-up for choosing bad films. It’s funny that they’d put dictators as the other 4 choices, as if it would be a tough choice for Len for who to choose. It’s funny when he decides to punch Jack, Jay, and RichEvans instead. You’re reading too far into things.

          • Herrerasaurus

My comment was just a comment you chose to reply to, and I’ve commented further explaining what I meant. Now you write “No one cares”? I’m not sure where you’re going with this.

          • AceRay

He’s saying that he doesn’t understand what the intention of your original point was on a comedy video. No one cares about your crackpot political theories, why post them here? What point are you trying to make?

          • Herrerasaurus

It was a comment on something I noticed, and obviously both you and him care enough to make further comments.
I’m willing to bet you think my “theories” are true as well, but wont admit it.

          • AceRay

Its a dumb comment, we’re calling you out for it.
Where do you get that impression from?

          • Mitchell Taco Nash

“I’m willing to bet you think my “theories” are true as well, but wont admit it.”

          • Jon

Why isn’t Mao on their then? He killed far more than those four combined. Pol Pot was worse than Kim Jong Un, but what American knows who Pol Pot is?

          • Mitchell Taco Nash

You and Herrerasaurus don’t seem to be getting the hint. Here, I’ll let Mike give it to you:

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBP0c7OAhvE

          • Jon

No, I understand. I’m not expecting them to care. I could care less if THEY cared. I don’t even agree that Herreasaurus started the thing. BUT, when you and the other person (people? I forget) started eviscerating Herresaurus for what he said, I felt you guys went to far. You guys didn’t just say “They don’t fucking care”. You attacked his argument and I demonstrated (I hope) that killing 14 million people is worse than 2000. Except in America. That was Herrerasaurus’ point. There are much, much more “evil” people and deeds out there than Osoma Bin Laden (Unless you disagree of course. Please elaborate if you do). Most Americans haven’t heard of the Armenian Genocide. If the US government wanted us too, I guarantee it, most Americans could give you names and dates, but that’s not part of our agenda. I understand that RLM did it for the lulz and I’m perfectly fine with that. And it doesn’t matter if I’m not ’cause RLM does whatever the fuck they want to anyway and they should-BUTT you and some others attacked the credibility of Herrerasaurus’ argument and I think you wrong.
Also- Whoever posted the tinfoil Joaquim Phoenix picture and dissed 1984; I have to ask if you heard about that whole NSA/Edward Snowden/WikiLeaks thing. I hate to break it to you, but I our government is not omnibenevolent. They’ve done shady things in the past and will continue to do so.

          • Mitchell Taco Nash

Damn straight they do what they want and don’t care about what you, Herrerasaurus, or I think about their throwaway joke.

            http://i.minus.com/iSILUBSOZHMg2.gif

          • Jon

Uh. Yeah… I thought we established that already. I wholeheartedly agree sir, but you were attacking Herrerasaurus on the merit of his ideas, not the lack of fucks given by RLM. There’s a difference. Kudos to you finding these gifs (or even creating them), but I’m not sure what affect they’re supposed to have on me….

          • Jon

Or how about King Leopold II of Belgium? I’ve heard estimates of 14 million Congonese(?) dead due to his exploitative methods. Idi Amin got 500,000. Maybe that’s not more than KJU, I don’t know. How about the Turkish leaders who initiated the Armenian,Greek and Assyrian Genocide? Where are they? Certainly they got more than KJU.

And has probably been told that they should hate, because the US government and those dictators and terrorist leader turned on the US government, was my point.

        • AceRay

I don’t hate Hitler or Stalin because the US government “told” me to hate them. I hate them because they put millions of people into death camps. Its that simple.
Stop reading so much 1984. We have a free media you know, as well as a democracy. There’s no Big Brother telling us what we should think.

          • Herrerasaurus

Do you hate Franklin D. Roosevelt? He put Americans with Japanese heritage in interment camps during WW2. Not millions, but Roosevelts guards shot people trying to escape.

My point being is that you’ve most likely never heard or thought much about those atrocities because the American government won the ww2 along with Stalin who later became an enemy.

Big Brother is always telling us what to think, since the beginning of mankind. For example: I’m telling you what to think and you’re telling me what to think. Governments and media are just better at reaching more people.

Freedom an illusion we must constantly try and battle out of – but we’ll just ever glimpse true freedom. Nobody is perfect, but we can strive towards perfection. :)

The Japanese Internment Camps are a stain on American history. There were Americans of German and Italian descent there, too. But you really can’t compare that to the systematic slaughter of millions. Not remotely.

    • ident

The only one that was ever a true ally was Stalin. The US indirectly provided support to Bin Laden when he was involved with the mujahideen in the 80s but I don’t think anyone would describe even the mujahideen as allies, much less its individual members. Kim Jong Un has never been an ally or neutral, since the US is still technically at war with North Korea, he’s been an enemy since the moment he took power. Hitler was also never an ally. As for noting potential neutrals, not sure what the point of that is. All belligerents could be said to have been at least neutral until the shooting started.

Also, far too early to call Kim Jong Un a monster, but he’s on the path.

      • Herrerasaurus

I did write ally/neutral, so yeah. Who is the ally or enemy is all up to what the people in government think is prudent at any given time.

Any western media network will depict Kim Jong Un as somewhat of a monster though (remember the 120 dogs Kim supposedly threw his uncle at?), just as his people depict anyone he doesn’t like as a monster. Youtube channel “Stimmekoreas” will give you entire documentaries of North Korean propaganda.

        • ident

Like I said, Kim Jong Un is definitely on the path to being a monster. Any honest media network would be right to regard him and his government with extreme skepticism, be it Western or any other cardinal direction. There’s a youtube channel for everything, not sure what your point is there.

          • Herrerasaurus

Pretty sure Kim Jong Un is already viewed as a monster in the eyes of the western world. Not saying that’s inaccurate. North Korea is poor and under the leash of a military dictatorship.

The point was to direct you towards a medium that puts out what airs on televisions in North Korea.

          • ident

The Western World is a pretty big place. I recall that when he took power many were hopeful that he would be more reasonable since he was educated in the West. At least in the last year, there were still some optimistic apologists who thought the brutal things he’s done thus far have been to consolidate power and judgement should be withheld as to how far the apple fell from the tree.

          • Herrerasaurus

By now most people should have lost hope though, right.

So that’s what’s wrong with his face! He was punched by Len Kabasinski… The continuity in this is amazing!

  • Guest

Hi Len! Loved the episode and awesome that you are giving the fans some love!

As an aspiring film maker, I was wanted to ask if you had some tips and insight on how to go about financing and distributing your films.

I just finished my first self financed feature length film, that my friend and me made for less than 10 grand, and we are now trying to figure out what to do with it.

Would love to know if you had some tips for us rookies.

    Keep up the great work!

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

I finance all my own things…..in the beginning when I knew even less of what I was doing, I at least had small plans going off of what my mentor ZOMBIEGEDDON’s Chris Watson was the “beginning of Len” was showing me. i.e. small budget, get a B-name actor and get all his/her scenes shot out in a day or two, I pushed a step further and put more T & A in my films and pushed the martial arts elements….but still. make a true plan, ask what your goal is from that plan (i.e. “just get it out there to some level”, “make money bar none”, “make a great film”, etc etc”), and execute the plan involving people who you not only trust but NEED to trust.
I will share my goals here for example….in SWAMP ZOMBIES (the first thing I ever did), I knew no one would want to watch indie horror without some type of name attraction and a gimmick (karate, camp, zombies, nudity)…so I went out and got Jasmin St Claire, a UFC hall of famer Dan Severn, and fresh from a WWE run Blue Meanie (and all were fantastic, nice people)…..but my goal was “just get it out there onto DVD”…not get in theatres (obviously), not make money, not even get a singles release(tho it did) etc etc….
in my career now, I have soon to be 8 films signed with 3 distributors and at this point in the indie world my suggestion is this….don’t budget more then you can afford to lose. you wont make much money back most likely, but a good goal would be to get it signed, get eyeballs on it, get with a distributor where your work can be valued and not buried beneath “way better projects” (because people will make better movies then you, it happens).
but my goals now are more inline with “make my budgets back and keep financing the next picture from it”….which is happening. and people obviously saw my work, as I landed the “fight choreographer” gig for the Billy Zane ZOMBIE KILLERS movie which is upper-echelon budget for “B movies”…..
don’t take criticism (even the ones that will annoy you with “you suck”, “its the worst thing I ever saw”, “this filmmaker is a numbnutt”, etc etc….those “critics” (and I use that term bottom of the barrel loosely) will never help you get better) too personally. Use real criticism as a learning tool and don’t have a huge ego about it….and remember Aristotle’s saying

“To avoid criticism say nothing, do nothing, be nothing.”

….then decide to say, fuck it, fuck them, im going to do my thing as best as I can and move forward.

      Good luck my friend.

The fucking Hamburgler and Admiral Bone-to-Pick fighting in front of a fake brick wall. Lethal Ninja is a classic for the ages.

I honestly was in tears over the Hamburglar comment during watching it….very funny

  • Mitchell Taco Nash

So, when he punched Rich, he was actually punching Hitlet?

Shit, I typed ‘Hitlet’ instead of ‘Hitler’. I’ll leave it, though, because it sounds funny, like a ‘little Hitler’; a ‘Hitlet’.

  • mgproductions

The guest talks over you guys a lot in the background, kind of seemed weird to me he’s just constantly talking over people.

    • ident

He may not be as experienced as the regulars in recording roundtable discussions.

  • Mitchell Taco Nash

You need to break down that first huge paragraph into smaller paragraphs.

    • ChrisWyble(wz3d)

I know it’s ridiculous. Meant to break it into a few comments, but the thread was moving so fast, I didn’t want it to get spread out all over the place.

      • Mitchell Taco Nash

Aha. Nah, as one comment is good, just it helps reading when things are in smaller sections, like in paragraphs. It makes it seem like you’re reading small chunks at a time instead of a giant blurb of words.

        • ChrisWyble(wz3d)

There you go. It’s late. Best I can do.

That thumbnail was a LIE! I watched the whole thing and there wasn’t a bewb to be had.

I did loose count on the panty shots after about 10 though.

  • hendrixisgod51784

I commend Len for going on the show and being a good sport. At the same time, I don’t think his personality fit well with the RLM cast. Len seemed a little too serious and stiff, whereas, everyone else was loose, laughing and having a good time.

    • Striker, Ted

Hard walking into a group of hacks like that, who know each other
so we’ll. Plus he’s a ninja, he probably had a prophecy of death on his mind.

Even now when I’m all grown up and I’m trying to become a woman now, you are there by my side. You are theeeerrrrre. You are there when I need you and you care about my freedom to be me, and I believe you’ll always be there for me. You’ll be there by my side when I need you. You’ll be there by side when I need you. And I hope there’ll come a time when you need me too. And I’ll be there for you. ”

    - the piano song from Lethal Ninja

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

Sounds like a diary entry of a 10 year old.

  • MarioMCP

Len was really funny when he was being a bit looser. When he was talking about ‘how fucking pathetic’ a scene was, he was hysterical.

I think Len could come back for another episode, he just needs to loosen up a bit. He is actually funny, and had some good comments and such, just needs to relax and realize its all in good fun.

    • Nicodemus-Rexx

I got the impression it was just that awkward time when you first meet a bunch of people and don’t know ‘em real well or how fit into their group dynamic.

You could tell that they all started to mesh better as the whole thing wore on, so yeah; Seconded. I’d love to see Len come back and see where it all goes.

  • Mitchell Taco Nash

    Len: “I think I know.”
Jake: “There’s so many really good people to-”
    Len: “Nick! I know.”

I don’t know why, but him getting Jim’s name wrong at 5:17 really got me. :)

  • Clayton Dunnavant

I feel like having Len Kabasinski on was an incredibly awkward experience. But none the less, he added some different humor (fart jokes are funny. groin shots are funny. karate chops to the neck are funny) and I’m sure he was just stoked to meet some of his own fans.

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

I watched this the 1st time feeling awkward, because in the back of my mind I thought RLM was gonna make a snide comment about his films in some way, or do something that would imply they feel Len’s movies are like these ninja movies.

Once I realized they respected him as a person and just wanted to hang out with him, I’ve been fine watching this episode ever since. The beginning with the beatings and face-punching was too good to watch just once.

      • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

thanks for watching! everyone at RLM was awesome to me and treated me more than great….

Props to you Len for coming on the show, it’d be neat to see you come back sometime! I’ve never seen one of your films and I know you get a lot of flak for them but hey, if you enjoy making them keep it up! :)

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

if you watch any I would suggest going with SKULL FOREST, NINJA:PROPHECY OF DEATH ( a few moments of poor audio, as I couldn’t ADR everything in time for release and couldn’t get more time from distro) and FIST OF THE VAMPIRE……

      • EXbob

Where would you suggest picking them up from?

I’m curious who came up with the idea of Len coming on the show. Who reached out to whom? Was Len already a fan of RLM and asked to be on the show, or did they invite him because they enjoy his movies so much?

    • AceRay

Len answered this below; RLM reached out to him

  • Prim Dániel Attila

I like that Len is relatively restrained throughout the video and at the end he just loses it too.

        • WrongWithYourFace
          • Now I Get It

Actually, it’s still a joke; it’s just not funny. The joke is in the structure of the thing and in the joker’s intent, not in the response it gets. Otherwise, we couldn’t even recognise that a joke that isn’t funny was meant as a joke, and wouldn’t feel embarrassed for someone who thought he was being funny when he wasn’t.

Awww… no Ninja Mission? Me are dissapoint. And not a single Godfrey Ho cut ‘n paste-George Harrison-job? So much trivia and awkward funny that were lost here.

But at least we got a fair dose of the awesomeness that is Ninja III: The Domination. If memory serves, the trilogy is supposed to be: Enter the Ninja, Revenge of the Ninja and Ninja III: the Domination. Nothing really in common except that it was three movies Sho Kosugi made for the same company as a ninja. And in my own garbled space of what I call mind, the third one was rally a part of what made the whole concept of Ninja take the form it did in Peter Griffins head.

And speaking of Ninja III: the Domination. You guys should really try out that Atari-game called Ninja Golf. Just a game where you are a ninja playing golf, but instead of just going in a golfcart between clubbing the ball, you have to fight your way through ninjas and dragons.

  • Joe Syxpac

Okay, this is awesome, but I do have one tiny complaint. You guys haven’t blown up, dragged, shot, dismembered, or otherwise destroyed a bad movie since Alien Seed.

I was really hoping Len would karate-chop a movie to death, or maybe throw ninja stars at one.

Len does get major props for being cool enough to hang out with you hack frauds. I’m actually gonna go out and buy one of his films instead of just pirating them like I normally do.

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

Speaking of boom mics… how come you guys don’t use one? It seems much simpler than micing each person and having awkward background chatter when their mics are turned off.

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

I wouldn’t want to hold up a boom mic for 2 hours while these guys talk. Plus, wouldn’t that require an extra person? One for the cameras, one for the mic?

Wouldn’t some kind of mic stand take care of that issue? Perhaps hang it from the ceiling somehow? These guys seem pretty creative, I’m sure they’d figure out something.

Doesn’t putting a mic on each person mean they can pick the best comments and make the audio comprehensible in the mix later, instead of having 5 people talking over each other? Just guessing, I know nothing.

          • Domo_Konnichiwa

Me neither. We need Vincent Price to train us about audio mixing. It should be as easy as 1-2-3!

          • Its_So_Dense

They’re mic’ing it the same way you’d mic a drum kit, essentially. The hi hat mic will have some snare in it, the overheads will have some hi hat, the kick will have some overheads, etc. When you start eq’ing, compressing and adding effects, you’ll want to be able to isolate each individual aspect of the kit so that you don’t wind up compressing/processing dynamics of instruments you’d prefer to leave unprocessed. You don’t want to be boosting the snare only to be bringing the cymbals up to unwanted levels in the process. Sure, you can use subtractive equalisation to bring down the levels on frequencies which the cymbals occupy, but that takes forever if you want to do it without losing too much of the snare.

        • Archie Bunker

I’m sure it’s something they considered but chose to go with individual mics in the end. I’m just curious as to their reasoning.

Len’s movies, good or “bad” are at least made. I can’t imagine that it’s easy to make a movie so being an entrepreneur and making movies that cater to an audience is successful to me.

If you have a dream then you should aim for it. Even the most successful big Hollywood movies don’t please everyone. Some people say Star Wars is shit. You can never please everyone so just make what you want to make and entertain those you can. Don’t try to win over haters. It’s a waste of energy.

This episode was a joy to watch, and Len was great in it. One of the top 5 BOTW.

  • electronsexprty

YOU FINALLY WATCHED A DAVID HEAVENER MOVIE! I’ve waiting for you to discover his magnificence for so long. Too bad you started with his worst movie. (He was the “For Hire” mulletperm dude in Lethal Ninja.)

I follow David Heavener like you guys follow Len Kabasinski and I have almost all of his movies. And his country music album. He’s a honky tonk boy, you know. David Heavener is a actor, director, writer, producer, singer who has made some amazing ’80′s-’90′s action schlock. ‘Outlaw Force,’ a revenge thriller from 1988, is probably his most famous film. I attended a viewing of it at the Alamo Drafthouse where I met him in all his glory. ‘Outlaw Force’ is good, but my personal favorite is ”Twisted Justice,” in which he also both stars in and directs. In it, he’s an asshole cop in dirty longjohns, who forsakes the “no guns allowed” law of FUTURE LA and kills the shit out of some people. It’s great. If you are looking to fill a show with ’90′s B-movie action films, David Heavener will not disappoint.

As to the video, HAVING LEN ON WAS GREAT! It seemed you guys had a lot of fun, which makes me happy. You made me want to brave Lethal Ninja again. Despite all my love for David Heavener, that was one I could not get through. I still rate that opening dance club scene as one of the worst dancing scenes of all times.

    • Mijk

      ….country music album?

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

my fav Heavener film is TWISTED JUSTICE as well…the RLM crew SHOULD do a BOTW dedicated to him or maybe even have a “BOTW tournament bracket with say 8 actors/directors/production companies…for example Heavener could go up against Reb Brown, Carradine vs Don “the dragon” Wilson, Olen Ray vs Wynorski, etc etc etc etc…till a champ is crowned……just an idea….

      • electronsexprty

YOU AVE EXCELLENT TASTE IN MOVIES! And fan of Don “the Dragon” Wilson too… :)

I would LOVE to see a BOTW dedicated to David Heavener. BUT, a BOTW tournament… now that’s an idea I can really get behind. I’d like to add Rowdy Roddy Piper to the list, as he’s done a lot of great B-movies that I think are BOTW material. Though, I’m not sure who we’d run him against.

You’ve certainly given me a lot to think about if I were to do my own BOTW tournament at home.

        • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

sure. MARKED MAN with Piper was awesome imo….id say a good group would be Loren Avedon, Don “the dragon” Wilson, Sho Kosugi, Michael Dudikoff, Lorenzo Lamas, Frank Zagarino, Jeff Wincott, and Cynthia Rothrock

  • Luke Brubaker

Really awesome of Len to come on, and especially to be active in the comments afterward. I was curious about a lot of things after watching this episode but he answered pretty much everything in the comments! That’s pretty rare.

  • Mitchell Taco Nash

You know, quite honestly, even if I had put out quite a few films I’d still be nervous joining the RLM team and trying to talk about films and gel with their group dynamic. This is even after watching nearly everything they’ve put out and seemingly knowing what their dynamic looks like, what their humour is, and what they talk about. I’d most likely be quieter than usual unless they explicitly asked me to talk. I try not to interrupt people and that often means I won’t be my word in. Sometimes I’ll trip over my words [probably be worse than those Richisms and Mike-isms, "it is it a chable?"] and become flustered. It’d go red in the face, or make the expression Rish made after he realized he said ‘chable’. Haha.

For Len to come right in and join their discussion table like that, even if he seemed not exactly sure how the dynamic would work, is commendable. He seemed rather calm for the most part and as the episode went on he gelled more with the group. Being able to have some laugh out loud funny moment as well made it seem lit he fit right it. I give you a Captain America thumbs up, Len!

      • Domo_Konnichiwa

I kinda felt with 5 people it’s too much for anyone to try and sift through. Maybe with 4 people Len would have had an easier time with it, or if one of the 5 was Jessi, who’s more thoughtful with her replies.

And what’s with the Gucci Guilty Ad guy doing with an A on his face?

        • Mitchell Taco Nash

          The ‘A’ is for ‘Adorable’.

        • bassbait

4 is too much. Let’s reduce it to one, no, ONE HALF. That would be much more entertaining, although it would be a short-lived series.

          • Domo_Konnichiwa

Because cutting Rich Evans in half for this series would lead to protests and riots, obviously. Maybe if we cut him horizontally…

I just noticed my 34 errors in this post. Fuck sakes…

    • bassbait

I’ve actually had multiple dreams where I join them for Half in the Bag or Best of the Worst. Of course that’ll never happen but I think the whole “dynamic” thing could simply be ignored… I dunno if I were just being myself then I’d probably fit right in, since I’m all about film discussion and sarcasm and laughing at the lack of logic in things. That said I’d spend an awful lot of time staring at Mike’s sexiness, so if I ever do get on watch my eyes, make sure they’re not taking Mike’s clothes off.

  • Memoman

    We’ve come full circle.

  • Memoman

Is Len choreographing Space Cop!? With that and the Hulk’s CGI, Space Cop is really going all in!

    http://th03.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2012/246/3/d/mr_plinkett_by_kezeff-d5di9ag.jpg

Wouldn’t mind having that sitting on the table next to my bed.

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

Now someone needs to make a Len Kabasinski decorative Christmas light set, and my Festivus pole decorating will be complete.

  • Mark Bisone

On a technical note, I think your first attempt at a 5-person panel setup went pretty well. The master, 2-shot,closeup,3-shot thing looked decent enough. Could be a good way to break ties, too.

Maybe for the the next show, you could do a master-2-2-2, cutting every so often to an 8mm transfer of Rich Evans eating a whole log of deli salami. You could have a full seven frauds all at once. It would be pandemonium!

    • Uncle Sporkums

There was kind of a “Last Supper” framing to it.

    • ident

I think putting Len in the middle was awkward. Mike or Jay should have been in the middle and Len off to one side, as with previous guests. Len did a fine job, but you can tell he got more comfortable towards the end and it would have been kinder to have less of a microscope on him at all times. I don’t know if he felt pressured to make comments or be funny, but I know I would have if I was sitting center frame.

And it seems like one of the cameras recorded a lower quality video than the other two. I think it was the camera with Jay and Jack.

      • Mark Bisone

It was the camera with Jay, Jack and Len. I just assume it was an upsized SD file.

        • Percy Gryce

      • catnep

I think putting Len in the middle made his head swell to gargantuan proportions. I have never seen such a Yoko-in-waiting. Is this the end of RLM?

        • ident

That’s the only reasonable conclusion to all of this.

  • DanceK

          • UnShame

Rich Evans is a professional stuntman and as such he doesn’t need multiple takes. They don’t even prepare the set so that things fall in a comical way, it all happens naturally, that’s how good Rich Evans is.

Thanks Len for making Redlettermedia greater by participating in on one of their videos. I loved how you asked for the group to search for something positive in each film. I love B films too, but it is worthwhile (IMO) to note that while some movies may be comedic due to the amateurish output the film presents itself as, there is a work of love present that spawned the project. Trying to find that loving spark can be very rewarding.

Best wishes and I look forward to checking out your work now.

      • Noah Roalson

A cry of supurb joy or bitter disappointment?

        • Percy Gryce

Sadness–thoughts of my childhood being raped.

          • Noah Roalson

            Just imagine it:

Ben, Luke, Solo and Chewy are in the Cantina making plans–Chewbacca’s favorite song starts playing (most likely Rednex- Cotton Eye Joe) and he instantly hops up onto the table and starts doing his thing.

            Wonderful ;)

          • Percy Gryce

Chewbacca was one of the reasons I loved Star Wars. He looked so real, but the focus was (almost) never on him. (That famous shot of him with his bowcaster that was used ubiquitously for publicity–including in Time magazine, as I recall–never appeared in the movie.) He was part of the background in a sense–not in a bad way, but in the same way that everything (locations, props, sets, costumes, vehicles, etc.) contributed to making SW look like a lived-in universe.

To see him shucking and jiving in the Wookiee equivalent of a minstrel show is heartbreaking.
            .

          • Noah Roalson

I completely with you. He is a great character and, like you said, actually looks quite realistic. I don’t think a Chewbacca level of perfection will ever be achieved on any similar character, in any movie, ever. The character duo of Han and Chewy is simply great.

          • WrongWithYourFace

Don’t forget that we have CGI now. Yu cunt achiv that levl of realsim with fawkin puppets!!

          • Noah Roalson

Er me gerd, i knoew rite? Jus shov it al on teh screen, make it dense!

          • WrongWithYourFace

Actually he does have the bowcaster. At least in Return of the Jedi, anyway. But it gets confiscated by teddy bears.

          • Percy Gryce

I meant the pic that I attached. Back in 1977-78, it showed up everywhere–except the movie.

          • WrongWithYourFace

Ah, my bad. Don’t remember it in A New Hope Star Wars, yea.

          • Now I Get It

Nothing against the OP, but that’s how I felt about the Batusi and, of course, that giddy Eightsome Reel solo they made Cary Grant dance in Indiscreet. I know he was a cockney comedian at heart, but – come the fuck on! – it was Cary Grant in a tux.

      • Noah Roalson

Haha, nope. Just a random GIF, nothing special about it… Well, other than it featuring Chewbacca.

  • jnywest

My only complaint is there was not more of a Q&A with Len. I want to know about how and why he made his movies and what he has taken from all of this. I want an interview and more Len.

  • nuckable

Neat episode! Awesome to see you on the show Len, I haven’t seen any of your movies yet, but I definitely feel compelled to watch them. Should you see this, I’d love to know which order you’d say I should watch them in (otherwise I’ll just go by the order RLM pointed to).

Also yeah, as others have pointed out, I really hope there’ll also be some kind of Q&A video coming up.

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

id skip everything and only watch SKULL FOREST. although if you must id narrow it to three….my personal favs are FIST OF THE VAMPIRE, NINJA: PROPHECY OF DEATH (although there is like 4-5 moments of bad audio…I started ADRing the film and it was going great but the distro wanted a spring release and just couldn’t give me anymore time :( ) and of course SKULL FOREST (which contains my fav scene I have ever shot)

Rich Evans, you are in an abusive relationship with RLM. Some of us are worried you need an intervention and a safehouse. Is there a pub that will let you sleep under the bar for a few weeks? Or until SpaceCop is released… then you can come back and kick all of their asses, with a champagne glass in one hand and a MacGuffin of choice in the other.

  • SkaMP

I was hoping for Len hitting the box target with Rich on it and then suddenly it’s actually rich behind the target and he’s getting hit in the face AGAIN :P

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

      now isn’t that superb idea!

  • catnep

His favorite schtick of mine is when he suppresses his opinion and gets visibly uncomfortable on camera. The eyes shift around… I always hope he’ll suddenly explode Tourette’s style and just SAY whatever the ffff he’s swallowing so hard to keep down! Or else it’s all the booze backing up on him…

  • Joe Syxpac

Holy crap! I just noticed something!

The dance club/auction house set in Lethal Ninja looks just like the apartment set in Witchboard 2!

  • bb-15

The gang RLM gang did a great job. And having Len_there was cool not only because he was a good sport but he also added comments about film making. And that made an excellent episode even better.

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

stay tuned…more about the filmmaking stuff is coming im sure…

      • Koldtoft

Hi Len. Really appreciate your appearance on this BOTW episode, it was really great. But it would be even better to see an uncut interview with you and Mike/Jay and maybe a guest appearance on Half in the bag too?

I would love to hear more about what motivates you to make the kind of movies you make, and how you feel / felt about the best of the worst reviews of your movies (Skull forest and the brief mentions of your other work).

Do you live near the RLM studio, and is there any chance we will see more of you?

        • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

no. I don’t live near the studio. im from the shores of Lake Erie in Erie, PA. As ive said before, I treat constructive criticism as a learning opportunity…an opportunity to listen to feedback that will help me grow and get better potentially. There is more to come from my stay out in WI for sure…stay tuned. I don’t mind the reviews I get good or bad (believe it or not that has been some fairly good ones too.)….I don’t compete against other indies etc etc…I compete against my last work and grow from that point

        • Mitchell Taco Nash

Len’s sooo hot that he’s managed to burn himself!

        • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

          no.

  • ident

Or Genghis Khan? Or Pol Pot? As others have already noted, there is room for 4. The 4 they picked were evil people, to one degree or another. That they weren’t the 4 you would pick seems petty to me.

    • amplifact

Of course. I wasn’t the one stressing that point though; all I said in my response to the thread was that Bin Laden seems a characteristically American choice.

  • Andrew Walker

Great, great episode. Thanks Len, good luck with the family and the future projects.

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

      Thanks Mr. Walker!

  • Fuck Me I’m January

Why were Len’s martial arts skills not used to destroy the Worst of the Worst? You buncha hacks!

    • WrongWithYourFace

      I was slightly disappointed too.

    • Percy Gryce

Even Len’s martial arts skills could not destroy the WOTW. The Wheel is not only a torture device for the modern age. It is the contemporary equivalent of the rota fortunae of classical and medieval thought. Thus the very existence of the universe depends on the continued spinning of the Wheel.

      • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

if the “rota whatever” is made of wood….yea im breaking that shit as a green belt let alone black belt my friend.

though I firmly believe none of the ninja movies warranted being destroyed on this episode.

        • Percy Gryce

Tsk, tsk, Leonard. If it were only a matter of physics, I’m sure you could successfully apply your multifarious martial-arts skills. But the WOTW is a matter of metaphysics, my good man, and there your many colored belts are of no avail.

    • Thanatos2k

I wanted to see Len punch a hole through a DVD.

  • El_Runko

Jeez, Len is quite the talker. Good thing they were mic’ed individually.

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

  • Isaac Thefallenapple

How awesome is that?! Len Kabasinski and a new torture device!

  • STACKMONSTER

Ninja movies are a goldmine – you could easily get four more shows out of them. Nice guest appearance too, Len was a good sport and provided some decent insights from the perspective of a martial arts adept.

(but for the love of God get on the Plinkett ‘Twilight’ reviews – I’m dying here)

  • Meester Smeeth

I guess Enter The Ninja, Revenge Of The Ninja and Ninja 3 are kind of in the same situation as Dawn Of The Dead, Zombie 2 (or Zombie Flesh Eaters) Zombie 3 and Zombie 4 possibly Zombie 5 & 6, and Alien, Alien 2: On Earth and Alien: Prometheus.

  • HeliopanND09

Watching this episode and the BotW episode with Skull Forest back to back is hilarious.

Absolutely fantastic episode! When you were talking about Lethal Ninja (and especially about that funeral scene), I was laughing to tears at that point :D, basically this is why I love this series so goddamn much, just perfect, absolutely perfect. It was also great to see Len as a special guest star, thumbs up for that!

I just read on IMDB that Len is also a collector of movie posters, mostly B-movie stuff.

Black belt, schmack belt–but a collector of paper and ephemera, now there’s a man after my own heart!

    • Its_So_Dense

After your heart in a sexy way, or in a ninja way? Wait, those methods are not mutually exclusive.

F.Y.I. Len—if you need any music for your projects, shoot me a message. I’m a huge metal-head who listens to Sigur Ros, Animals as Leaders, Innocence Mission and I also do NES covers on guitar. I’d love to contribute music to your films. youtube.com/dariaharman to hear some of my video game music interpretations. My metal sensibilities are stratospheric. Deeds of Flesh, Borknagar, Nasum, Dan Swano, Gorguts (Obscura), Neurosis and Augury are some of my biggest influences. I know my shit.

      • jic1

        Your youtube link doesn’t work.

By the way, have you heard Wreck and Reference? Judging by the bands you listed, I think you’d probably like them.

        • Its_So_Dense

Thanks, just fixed it—I was a little tipsy last night.

Anyway, Wreck and Reference: pretty dark stuff and somewhat minimalistic—reminds me of some iterations of Ulver (I say “iterations” because that band has always been something of a chameleon to me). Have you ever heard of my old band, Cloacal Kiss? A little BM influence in the music, but mostly just mathy-y tech-grind.

          • jic1

“Have you ever heard of my old band, Cloacal Kiss?”

No, but I just googled them, and they sound pretty good.

          • Its_So_Dense

            Haha. We sounded like shit!

          • jic1

Well, OK then: The first track that came up when I googled them sounded pretty good.

      • bassbait

I didn’t see Between the Buried and Me on your list.

        • Its_So_Dense

That’s because I eventually grew out of what they were doing. I actually live in NC, and I used to go see Prayer For Cleansing and From Here On—when Tommy and Paul and Will got together for BTBAM, I lost my mind (I was like 18-19 at the time). The first two albums were so dope—I’d never heard anything like The Silent Circus before. However, Alaska started what, to me, would be a massive downward spiral. Now, understand that I love technical music (Blotted Science, Spawn of Possession, etc), but only if it doesn’t sound forced. BTBAM’s attempts at a maturity into genuine prog just don’t work for me. In terms of musicianship and musicality, I think they’re great. As for their music, the last thing I heard was the Parallax Hypersleep Dialogues, and I stopped hoping for anything that wasn’t Dream Theater-ish after that. (I like Dream Theater, but only Images and Words and a Traumatic Turn of Events).

          • bassbait

Eh, whatever, after a long time sifting through the good and the bad of bands I’ve honestly just given up being critical of other bands because it doesn’t serve a purpose. BTBAM is doing exactly what they want to do and I’d say they actually have matured as a band, as demonstrated by their defining lyrical statement in “White Walls” which is specifically about how they were looking to mature as musicians and be what they wanted to be all along. The members of Silent Circus era even admit that “Colors” is the album BTBAM was trying to make from the start but never could. So instead of criticizing BTBAM for what they aren’t I decided to just accept them for what they are. Holding bands to any standard is kind of pointless because it doesn’t affect anybody but yourself. As a fan of Blotted Science and Spawn of Possession, BTBAM is way better than both to me, although I respect Blotted Science massively for the big ideas that Ron has going on in his head. Speaking as a musician, BTBAM does more to inspire me musically than Blotted Science, but Blotted Science is in a league of their own when it comes to musicianship and composition. Same with Gorguts, who I listen to all the time. For me, music is just about what inspires me, and I didn’t realize it for a long time, but later era BTBAM is exactly the type of music I’ve been looking for for a long time. That and The Mars Volta (first two albums specifically). So if you don’t get anything out of BTBAM’s stuff from Alaska onward that’s fine but I think it’s better to look at a band for what they are instead of what they aren’t.

          • Its_So_Dense

I do indeed look at them for what they are, and that is a mish-mash of tons of other people’s ideas and an indulgence in technicality to the extent that I cease to find it musical. The only standard I hold anyone to, in a metal or pseudo-metal context, is one of from-the-ground-up musical ideas. BTBAM’s music is a montage of Devin Townsend and Dream Theater ideas. That’s fine, there are plenty of bands like that. It’s not what I like. I am more of a student of music, myself. When I listen to BTBAM, there’s nothing there that I haven’t heard before (I just listened to Parallax II). When I listen to Tosin Abasi or Ron Jarzombek’s music, I’m being inundated with very original ideas on various approaches to not only guitar, but music theory, melody, rhythm and composition as a whole. When I make my little video game covers, I’m doing it as a means of understanding the nuances and beautiful simplicity and conciseness of Japanese usages of Iwato/Kokinjoshi etc. BTBAM doesn’t give me any of that anymore. In other words, my musical studies and musical interests have surpassed what they are capable of creating.

They just don’t have anything to offer me anymore. I will still jam to Silenty Circus and Self-Titled, but it’s only out of nostalgia at this point. Although, the intro riff to Destructo Spin is still fucking brilliant.

          • bassbait

“my musical studies and musical interests have surpassed what they are capable of creating.” see, surpassed is a terrible word to use there because you’re implying superiority in any way, which is impossible given that music is not objective. You haven’t surpassed BTBAM, you just haven’t found something to your liking. We can both agree that Ron Jarzombek is a genius, and I’d go ahead and throw in Omar Rodriguez-Lopez from The Mars Volta and Luc Lemay and Steeve Hurdle from Gorguts while I’m at it. I don’t see anything in Tosin Abasi besides technically proficient generic “Prog”. I told my brother once that my main problem with Animals as Leaders is that I don’t feel any emotions when listening to it besides “Prog”. If you hand me any Tosin riff I can’t tell how I’m supposed to feel. AAL leaves no impact on me at all, positive or negative.

Your claim that BTBAM is so focused on technical that it ceases to be musical would apply way better to something like Brain Drill than BTBAM, who’s later career has been a combination of technical and musical that is not often matched by other bands. The “sleep on” section of Ants of the Sky is very musical, as well as the 2 minute or so clean section that follows. In fact if you really break down the music of Ants of the Sky, most of the song is very musical with only a few overtly technical sections, such as the 11/8ths riff.

I don’t hear all that much Dream Theater in BTBAM and even if that’s the case, Dream Theater is nowhere near as good to me. As for Devin Townsend, the only albums of his that are remotely like BTBAM (imo) are Deconstruction and Alien. Deconstruction was made after Colors and Great Misdirect and around the same time as Parallax 1, so to even say that BTBAM is ripping off Townsend’s style there is absurd because BTBAM came first in that regard. As for sounding like Alien, not really, only a few bits and pieces, because Alien is based around a lot of repetition (Shine, We Ride, Love?, Possessions, are all examples of songs that hardly go very far with the musical foundation).

I’ve been studying music very attentively myself and I try to make sure when looking at bands to learn all of the parts of all of the instruments, which I have done with most of the bands I like. Doesn’t mean I can play them all but just that I have them memorized. Blotted Science is basically the only new idea in music since Gorguts’ Obscura album came out, and before Obscura I’d say the newest idea before that would be the invention of Death Metal. And I will debate that Blotted Science is even a new idea given Spastic Ink. You can see bands like Between the Buried and Me, as well as The Mars Volta who I think are similar in a lot of ways, as just a combination of other people’s ideas, and that’s fine, but at this point everything has to be a combination of something in order to seem new. It’s not about who did it first it’s about how it’s done and you can dislike BTBAM’s methods and sound but you don’t need to bring in all of these reasons like “they ripped off Dream Theater”, because all reasons to distance the worth of a band from others are subjective and can also apply to bands you do like. Nobody is really “original” anymore so criticizing BTBAM for not being original is pointless. Again, you can dislike them all you want but most “reasons” for disliking a band are special pleading at best.

          • Its_So_Dense

Yay, the old “music is subjective” argument! You may look at music subjectively, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t look at it objectively. So many cliches in your response. “Nobody is really original anymore”, “music is subjective”, etc. Say something interesting. Jesus. Pretty petty to try to marginalize my viewpoint by writing that I said “they ripped off of Dream Theater”. I never said that, but they’re using the template that they built and aren’t adding anything to it but a few growls, screams and some black-metal-style blasts here and there.

Yes, both of those bands (Mars Volta and BTBAM) are mish-mash bands, and I happen to like the style when used by certain people in certain ways—but I need something substantial to be added to said style(s) in order for my interest to be piqued. For instance, Lye By Mistake and Kayo Dot/Maudlin of the Well—they take directions with their music that I’ve never heard anyone take before them. BTBAM doesn’t add anything to prog except their metalcore roots. Tosin takes Meshuggah’s polymeter obsession in a completely different direction to a degree that is theoretically appreciable on paper—it’s not that he combines Djentiness with jazz and electronic elements, it’s the underlying theoretical ideas which make the music good, not the simple fact that he just combined styles—any idiot can do that. Ron Jarzombek brilliantly manipulates 12-tone concepts like he’ll die if he doesn’t. Vishal J. Singh of Amogh Symphony makes electronica and metal and traditional Indian melodic concepts smoke crack together in a mixing board.

And, yes, my musical mind is superior to the music that BTBAM creates. I’m not saying that I am a better musician than any of them, I am merely saying that their music is rather elementary and not in the way that I find enjoyable for its quaintness. When I want technical music, I want ACTUAL technical music. Not wankery and odd time signatures used just because. If they actually explored time signatures, I might be interested. But, melodically, there just isn’t anything unique happening there.

Since you haven’t said one interesting thing to me about music, I no longer have any reason to continue replying to your trite little musings. I don’t think BTBAM adds anything to music. Get over it. You’re acting like I said they suck or something. Lol.

  • Joe Syxpac

I just had the greatest idea! After Space Cop comes out we need to get Len Kabasinski, Michael Bay, Rick Berman, and George Lucas to review it BotW style!

Throw in Feeding Frenzy and Gorilla Interrupted to round it out.

    • Domo_Konnichiwa

Is Roland Emmerich mediating this discussion, to keep Michael Bay from hogging up all the screen time?

      • Joe Syxpac

That’s not a bad idea. I was gonna suggest James Cameron, but there’s a risk that George would eat him.

I mean, yeah, having Mr. Bay is a risk, but you know SOMETHING is gonna get blown up eventually if he’s there.

Somebody should manufacture a smoke alarm that alerts people to the presence of fire and choking fumes with the voice Rich Evans exclaiming: “OH MY GAWD!”

    • backwards7

Clearly somebody opened the wrong door at the wrong time. No one was ever meant to see this and yet, now that we have, it cannot be unseen.

The reactions in this clearly non-Photoshopped image are interesting:

Jay wears the fiercely alarmed expression of a man who fears that being caught in the company of the ursine Rich Evans mutant will in some way affect his credit rating. His face is a picture of someone who is mentally weighing up the pros and cons of bludgeoning the interloper to death with his camera.

Mike obviously doesn’t care who knows about his barely-successful attempts to splice the DNA of Rich Evans with that of various North American land mammals. He has been caught in far more compromising situations than this and has previously been cautioned by Interpol for “interfering” with migrating griffins. A few weeks after this photo was taken he submitted an application to open ‘The Three Bears Massage Parlour’ – “Where every fairytale has a happy ending.”

Most emotionally devastating of all is the unjustified look of unfettered joy beaming from the face of the bear/Rich Evans hybrid (A Bearvan?). No one has said to him: “You don’t have to go into this room with these two hardcore furries whose offer of honey is, at best, metaphorical.”

      • Percy Gryce

Ah, no. C’mon. I would agree that he looked a bit uncomfortable but I still think it went rather well.

I dont think RLM would do the -let’s invite people and make fun of them-. Thats just not their style and they are allways kind towards people they work with.

I think it has to do with chemistry and meeting people for the fist time. Len is getting a camera shoved up his face and has to be “funny” and try not to sh** in his pants in a completely new enviroment. It takes time to warm up to people and all of us are most of the times the “socially akward” or “shyguy” when we meet our friends-friends for the first time.

The “Len Kabasinski” guy, (wich movie Skullforest these frauds wathed back in october last year and destroyed) problably had never met all of them and it just seems they have a different kind of chemistry.

He warmed up some in 13:55 and when Mike got really drunk at 34:00 and tries to explain mullet guys role in the movie Len is getting his laugh on. Working in front of a camera is not an easy to do. It takes guts to do these things. Len’s a good sport for daring to do this.

As for mr folding chable 38:30, it was just not his a-game that night.

I really hope he gets invited back.

  • Mike Jakermen

I just realized that the girl from Ninja 3. Is Kelly from Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo. Also im surprised they got Len Kabasinski. I mean i cant think about many directors. Were you can dump on their movies and see them show up on your show.

RLM wanted to give their fans what they felt they wanted im sure.

….and I as ive stated, take things as a learning opportunity, chance to branch out and meet new people & projects & lovers of movies (like the kind that appear on BOTW).

chances are if you know what ELVES is, if you know who Ciro H Santiago (was) or David A Prior is, then….we should certainly call ourselves friends. Why wouldn’t we?

Super cool and understanding of Len to hook up with the RLM dudes to revel in being B-Movie nerds. It’s great that indie filmmakers can take the piss out of each others movies but still realize that they’re swimming in the same soup, and get along because they are all moving towards the same goal. I Can’t wait to see Len doing some bad-ass kung-fu in Space Cop, and I hope to see the RLM crew involved in some of Len’s productions in the future. haha! thanks for checking out the episode. glad you enjoyed!

  • Navon Sensei

I noticed Mr. Kabasinski speaks very accurately, loud, in full sentences, attentive to detail, judging fair and acts dominant, overeager, down to earth and in control. You can sense the director when he directs the crew to name their favorites. I am not totally convinced that this is all he is, for he sits very stiff during the discussion not completly unwound. Seems a little pretentious or compensating or maybe a reaction of awe being among film experts – can’t really tell. I’m not sure whether to hope he left with some advice to make better films afterwards or whether to root for him to stay the same. But I must say it’s unbelievable that he showed up on the show. What a great thing, because he added something unseen. Hopefully, if he decides to join again, he relaxes more.

Yea I think Len might’ve been a bit nervous or something. I mean this show is about lightheartingly ripping bad movies a new one and you don’t want to come off as dumb or something so I understand the nervousness. Once Len started to cuss and talk shit about the movies he was pretty great.

Even Rich doesn’t do that shit. And we all know Rich has absolutely nothing going on whatsoever. Whatever, I’m drunk.

  • urudu

Look at me with my glass of fucking scotch. Woe is me for not laughing when all other people are laughing because I’m a cool guy and am in action movies.

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

its actually disaronno. scotch is gross. actually (as I told RLM before the shoot), I don’t feel very ‘qualified’ to ‘rip’ other low budget/indie films. I know what it takes to get one (or two…or 8) released, and people somewhere…SOMEWHERE…cared enough for each film to write a script, shoot it, use a boom mic (as we saw in Jay’s positives for LETHAL NINJA), etc. etc…..while comedy is not my shtick as it is for RLM, I tried to provide a fresh look at things. So far the positive responses have outweighed the negative. But ya cant please everyone

      • urudu

Your positive energy is amazing. It’s making me so hard. It’s like nothing can touch you.

as much as ive loved chatting with the RLM fans….im going to take a break now as my mother passed away early this morning after a very long battle with Multiple System Atrophy. Thanks again everyone who watched the episode and everyone who chatted with me here on the RLM forum. Peace & respect to you all.

Sorry to hear that, man. Thanks for all the comment replies, it was awesome. Hope to see you in some more stuff, so don’t be a stranger. Best wishes!

I’m sorry to hear it man. Good luck in future film endeavors. You’ve probably gained quite a few fans and quite a bit of respect for responding and for the appearance

    • Duckler

Damn, that’s hard to hear. Best of luck Len! We really kinda like you!

    • urudu

Your mom died and you thought you’d share this in the comments section of RLM. Maaaaan. I don’t know which is darker: the fact that this is what you’ve just actually done or that I’ve brutally pointed this out. Dark shit aside though, I’m sorry for your loss. I really wish my mom died! Cunt…

    • catnep

Best wishes to you and your family, Len. This is sad news.

For what it’s worth, my earlier comments on this page were meant as dumb jokes. Hope to see your return to RLM !

    • Real Quantum

I’m very sorry for your loss.
I can only offer my sympathies and wish you all the strength in the world in the times to come.
Cry whenever you have to, take your time to grieve.
Look for comfort in those around you, knowing that you’ll stand up again.

A much better movie called Lethal Ninja is the one directed by Yossi Wein. It ends with ninjas on rollerskates!

  • Pete Zarrol

Len Kabasinski comes across really well! I’m amazed that he managed to do so without compromising any of his integrity or his dignity, and to gain quite a few fans at the same time. But I think the RLM guys did well too to be humble enough to invite him and face up to what they said before. This was a great episode – up there with last year’s Christmas special imho.

As I watch more of RLM’s stuff (BotW, the reviews, and the DVDs), I’m starting to get an idea of their philosophy regarding “bad” movie-making. It’s not always clearly expressed (and is often contradictory, especially when Mike tries to elucidate on it), but it is something that ties together everything they do, and therefore it is – deep down – quite consistent. The lads enjoy laughing at bad movies, of course, but behind the laughs is a genuine appreciation of people who try to make movies independently. Generally speaking, their criterion for a good “bad” movie is whether it’s entertaining, and they themselves prove that you can make an entertaining movie on any budget. If they ever laugh *at* a movie, it will be because of things that are separate from budget limitations – competence, errors, odd stylistic choices – things that any filmmaker could fix, if they tried.

For this reason, inviting Len Kabasinski on makes perfect sense. He says himself that he’s a fan of the b-movie genre, and he could clearly take their criticism of his films in good spirit because of this. They are very similar filmmakers, but where Len Kabasinski is very earnest in what he does, RLM are very tongue-in-cheek. Beyond that they have a common goal – make good movies, budget be what it may.

At the end of this episode I thought to myself, ‘What if the “bad movie” thing really caught on and people started to make “bad” movies on purpose (for hipsters)?’. That would be truly awful. So in a weird way, these good “bad” movies must have a certain purity in them – they weren’t intended to be laughed at. Maybe somewhere in there is where RLM’s heart lies.

    Or is that just bollocks?

  • Cacktowl

Keep up the great work RLM! You’re all still pretty young, making movies, making web series that we fans follow and comment on in mass, this place is great.

This was a good episode but i’d maybe like to watch more of Jessi, Great job in your guest appearance Len!

  • Reginald Van Der Slythe III

I saw Ninja 3 last year for the first time. I was filled with regret after…regret that I hadn’t seen it years earlier because it is awesome. The movie is never boring; everything is either legitimately great (the golf course scene, Sho at one point saying, “I have come to revenge” which I can’t believe no one brought up or that the clip wasn’t played), hilariously bad (floating sword, spinning dummy) or stunningly terrible (the fact that Officer Douchebag becomes the love interest, the V-8 scene), and it’s all so ’80s it hurts. Definitely one to watch.

The other two, despite sounding awful in nearly every way, have intrigued me enough to try tracking them down. I’m sure I’m not the only one, because that’s the kind of sick we are around here.

  • Jonah Falcon

I saw Ninja III: The Domination a ton of times on HBO back in the 80s.
“You cannot defeat me – I AM A NEEEEEENJA!”

    • Jonah Falcon

Oh, and the expressions on Jack and Jay’s face after Len punches their pix out are hilarious.

  • Jonah Falcon

If Len loves Sho Kasugi, wonder if he watched The Master back in ’85.

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

I absolutely did. I love Lee Van Cleef….my fav 80s shows were THE INCREDIBLE HULK, AIRWOLF, THE MANIMAL, and THE PHOENIX…..

  • http://conservativeyoda.blogspot.com/ Solo4357

Since Godzilla is coming up, I suggest “Mighty Peking Man” for a next BOTW. It’s amazing.

  • http://searchingforkim.weebly.com Matthew Tyler Di Leo

I’ll admit Len annoyed me in the beginning of the video, but once you guys eventually got around to talking about the movies, he really started to shine.

  • proghead777

Brilliant move, Mr. Kabasinski. All this time we foolishly thought we were laughing AT you, and now we suddenly, unexpectedly, realize that we were laughing WITH you. It’s a move worthy of, dare I say it… a FUCKING NINJA!

  • Robby

It was so awesome of Len to come and do this with you guys. I think the only thing that bothered me was when they were talking about the funeral scene and Rich says “From the sex scene on…” and Len says “Yeah, that’s not me.” All I could think of was…all the clips we’ve seen of his movies, there’s always nudity in HIS movies? I’m not saying that’s what does it for him, but it did seem mildly hypocritical. I’m sure I’m just being a nitpicking asshole, but otherwise this episode was fantastic!

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

      hi Robby,
with that comment, that’s not exactly what I meant (what you’re saying). I meant “yeah that’s not me” as in “I don’t agree with you” ( I said that after Mr. Evans stated he liked the film from the ‘sex scene forward’…my reply to him was ‘yeah, that’s not me’ i.e. meaning I didn’t enjoy it as much as him moving forward…..hope that clarifies.

  • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

nah. wasnt nervous at all really….just feeling out what the RLM folks wanted…did they want “super talkative B-movie love Len”? did they want “more reserved, chime in when prompted Len”?….I didn’t really know. The BOTW show is these guys (and girl) moment to shine, im merely an additive to the proceedings. but nervous?….nah.

  • Cameron Vale

This is the fifth time I’ve watched this, and I’m only just noticing how edited the audio is. There are occasional little deleted asides that remain faintly audible through the other mics, and at least one point Mike and Len were ranting simultaneously.

  • 24601

Mikes “exercise/exorcise” pun: did that go right over Jay’s head or did Jay simply choose to ignore it?

  • nurd_alert

Best episode yet! Len, I must admit I made an unfair judgment about you based on what I’ve seen on previous episodes. You’ve shown me I was completely wrong. I will be seeing all your movies now! Best regards my fellow life long martial artist

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

Thanks for watching my friend. I’m glad you feel proved wrong :) *karate bows to you*

  • Miroslav

Great episode, I was very surprised how cool Len was. But … To be honest, after some time, it looks to me like if Len just played on everyone. I’m very sorry if I’m wrong but that’s how I see it. Especially his comments, in one of them there was something like that RLM fans are very smart and intelligent … I don’t know, if someone would told me that, I would say he sounds kind of like a brown noser. And also this coolness, like how can someone be so open minded and make 7 movies that … well have continuously so many flaws even for B-genere? Because from the comments it looks like he takes his work pretty seriously, he’s not making fun of it. From all of this I’ve got the bad feeling that he just wants to sell his movies to as many people as possible. And we all fell for it.
    I don’t know, if I’m wrong, I really apologize. I hope I wasn’t very rude

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

I’m not tryin to sell movies, lol….I have a full time day job. And if it’s one thing I’m not it’s an ass kisser….I hate people like that. And meeting new people, I try first and foremost to convey respect. This isn’t my territory….I’m a guest…there’s PLENTY of people who I’m sure don’t like me for this reason or that reason and that’s cool with me. I’d rather be loved or hated without the fencesitters

      • Lat

Amazing, amazing episode. I havent seen a lot of BOTW but I surely will be bactricking now.

Len blew me out of the water as well. He wasnt there just for a gimmick, he really had something constructive and funny to to say. I thought he had an accent, and coupled with his name I was sure he was a foreigner, but a quick google later it doesnt seem like it. A really eloquent and likeable guy. Ill go back and watch the BOTW with him right now.

And mad props to the guys behind the camera. Always cool to hear then laughing in the back.

    • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

Thanks for watching my friend…but no, I’m not a foreigner. I’m from northwestern Pennsylvania about 2 hours north of Pittsburgh, 2 hours east of Cleveland, and 75 mins west of buffalo,ny.

      • Lumm0x

Cool. Cool cool cool. I’ll be sure to come visit next time I’m in the New York area :-)

Thanks for the reply, from an actual foreigner.

Mr Kabasinski, how do you like Michael Bay’s Transformer movies and, if you chose to take it, what would you do with a Transformer movie if you were given the opportunity and typical budget to make one?

      • http://www.facebook.com/len.kabasinski Len Kabasinski

theyre not my thing really. i have over 300 issues or so of the INCREDIBLE HULK and am a big fan boy HOWEVER….i HATE the hulk films so far, didnt care for THE AVENGERS etc etc. I really liked the INCREDIBLE HULK tv show….liked the stories on it, loved Bixby, etc etc……if i did the TRANSFORMERS?….i would make their be less characters and turn it into THE HIDDEN with robots and maybe exploit the 1980′s Transformers comic released in the UK where it goes more in depth about the time-traveling exploits of Galvatron…..

        • Meester Smeeth

Yeah, I remember liking the Hulk TV show when I was a kid. I only really remember bits and pieces, the one with Thor and the one with Daredevil in particular. The Hulk movies have been kinda forgettable, but I really liked Avengers. I thought it was a good, fun superhero movie and I liked how it wasn’t afraid to be fun.
I haven’t actually seen The Hidden but I remember seeing trailers for it years ago (the one with Kyle MacLachlan?). I’ve never read any Transformers comics, nor was I really a fan of the cartoons (I was more of a He-Man fag). I just thought I’d ask your opinion on the matter, considering all the Transformers shenanigans going on here at RLM at the moment.
